Element is seeking an experienced Business Development Manager – Battery & Energy Storage in our Atlanta lab, to drive growth across the rapidly expanding battery, energy storage and electrification markets.
This individual will be responsible for identifying, developing and closing new business opportunities for Element's battery testing and engineering services, with a particular emphasis on energy storage systems, grid storage, battery cells, modules, packs and emerging energy technologies.
The successful candidate will develop relationships with battery manufacturers, energy storage system manufacturers, utilities, renewable energy companies, OEMs, technology developers, engineering firms and other organizations investing in energy storage and electrification.
This is a highly consultative sales role requiring the ability to understand customer technical challenges, identify appropriate testing solutions and work closely with Element's technical experts to develop customized testing programs.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a business development strategy focused on Battery and Energy Storage customers
- Identify, qualify and pursue new business opportunities within assigned markets and geographic territories
- Develop new relationships with battery manufacturers, energy storage companies, OEMs, technology developers and other strategic customers
- Grow existing Element accounts by expanding the use of battery testing, validation, certification and engineering services
- Develop and maintain a robust sales pipeline sufficient to achieve or exceed annual revenue and margin targets
- Manage opportunities from initial prospecting through proposal, negotiation and contract award
- Prepare and deliver compelling proposals, presentations and customer business reviews
- Develop account plans for strategic customers and establish multi-level relationships with key decision-makers
- Re-engage dormant accounts and identify opportunities to expand Element's share of customer testing spend
- Maintain accurate opportunity, forecast and customer information within Element's CRM system
- 5+ years of successful B2B business development or technical sales experience
- Demonstrated experience selling into the battery, energy storage, electrification, automotive, energy or advanced technology markets
- Strong understanding of battery technology, energy storage systems or battery testing
- Experience selling complex technical services, engineering services, laboratory testing or certification is highly desirable
- Proven ability to develop new business and penetrate strategic accounts
- Demonstrated success managing long, complex B2B sales cycles
- Strong consultative selling and relationship-management skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with technical engineers as well as senior executives and procurement professionals
- Commercially driven with a strong understanding of revenue, margin, forecasting and pipeline management
- Excellent presentation, negotiation and communication skills
- Willingness to travel regularly throughout the United States to visit customers and attend industry events
