Job Summary:

The Assistant Manager of Business Development oversees the daily operations of the Commercial Business Development team while serving as an individual contributor. This role ensures timely and accurate customer support, sample fulfillment, pricing quotation development, CRM maintenance, and technical product assistance while supporting business growth initiatives and customer satisfaction. This role directly supervises Business Development representatives, including workload management, coaching, scheduling, training, and timecard approval.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Lead and oversee the order entry process, ensuring workload balance, operational efficiency, and service-level expectations are met.
  • Manage and maintain customer account information to support accurate order processing and sales activities.
  • Manage time sheets for Business Development.
  • Develop and deliver onboarding and training programs for new sales associates regarding Business Development processes, systems, and services.
  • Work closely with the Sample Department to resolve exceptions and opportunities
  • Analyze freight costs associated with shipping samples.
  • Monitor team productivity and service levels.
  • Provide coaching and performance feedback.
  • Foster a customer-focused culture that supports internal and external customer satisfaction.
  • Develop departmental procedures and process improvements.
  • Participate in recruiting, interviewing, and onboarding new team members.
  • Assist in employee development and succession planning.
  • Create and analyze operational reports and metrics.
  • Escalate service and order fulfillment issues.
  • Ensure CRM data quality and adherence to company standards.

Performance Expectations (if applicable):

  • Meet departmental service-level targets.
  • Ensure timely processing of sample requests and quotations.
  • Maintain high levels of CRM data accuracy.
  • Effectively train and support new sales associates.
  • Promote collaboration across Business Development, Sales, Customer Relations, Customer Service, Marketing and Sample Operations.

Experience/Education Requirements:

  • Prior supervisory or team leadership experience preferred.
  • High School diploma / GED required. College preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience supporting customer-facing operations.
  • Experience with CRM platforms and order management systems.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including reporting, data analysis, and PivotTables preferred.

Other Requirements:

  • Overtime is required on occasion.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.
  • All accidents must be reported immediately.
