1. Department Purpose
Sources, evaluates, negotiates, and purchases recyclable non-ferrous metals (copper, aluminium, brass, bronze, zinc, lead, nickel alloys, insulated wires, radiators, motors, cables) at competitive prices while ensuring quality, compliance, supply continuity, and profitability.

2. Team Structure
Head/Manager – Metal Procurement - Primary Responsibility: Strategy, margins, supplier network, approvals, team performance
Senior Buyer - Primary Responsibility: High-value accounts, pricing, negotiations, volume planning
Buyer/Procurement Executive - Primary Responsibility: Daily sourcing, quotations, supplier visits, purchase closure
Yard/Material Inspector - Primary Responsibility: Material ID, grading, weighing, contamination checks
Procurement Coordinator - Primary Responsibility: POs, documentation, logistics, MIS, payment follow-up
Commercial/Market Analyst - Primary Responsibility: Market prices, landed cost, competitor rates, profitability

3. Job Description: Buyer – Non-Ferrous MetalsKey Responsibilities
Sourcing: Identify, onboard, and develop suppliers (manufacturers, dismantlers, dealers, traders); maintain supplier database; build recurring supply.
Inspection & grading: Verify grade/quantity/condition; classify material; coordinate with yard and quality teams.
Pricing & negotiation: Track market prices; price on net landed cost/recovery; negotiate terms within approved margins; escalate high-value deals.
Purchase execution: Prepare POs and agreements; coordinate logistics and weighment; verify documentation before dispatch approval.
Quality & commercial control: Reconcile declared vs. received quality; apply transparent rejection/deduction rules; prevent billing fraud or rate manipulation.
Compliance: Maintain supplier KYC/GST/PAN; verify authorisation to trade; ensure environmental/waste/tax compliance; reject unverified or suspicious material.
Reporting: Daily purchase/rate/stock reports; live pipeline tracking; weekly market intelligence updates.

6. Skills & Competencies
• Knowledge of non-ferrous scrap grades, metal identification, recovery/yield, and processing losses.
• Strong negotiation and supplier relationship management.
• Landed-cost and purchase-profitability calculation.
• Familiarity with commodity prices, regional scrap markets, GST/e-way bill documentation.
• Proficiency in Excel/ERP/procurement software; strong communication and field-verification skills; high integrity.

Skills Required

  • 2-7 years of experience in scrap buying, metal trading, recycling, or commodity sourcing
  • Knowledge of non-ferrous scrap grades and metal identification
