The Biochemist will contribute to the successful functioning and overall objectives of the R&D team. This role will primarily involve working on specific research challenges, including the development of new assay kit and enzyme products. The role holder will take responsibility for the management of their own R&D projects and proactively work towards their completion within agreed timeframes. The role requires the candidate to have good laboratory skills and a good knowledge of biochemical assays and their applications. The role also requires excellent attention to detail, problem solving, record keeping, organisational, communicative, inter-personal, and multi-tasking abilities. The candidate must be a proactive team player with the ability to work on their own initiative.

Research and Development Tasks 

 

  • New product development 

  • Develop and launch new products in conformance with Neogen NPI Process 

  • Develop timelines for product development within the Neogen R&D framework 

  • Liaise with Product Managers to develop an understanding of the product application 

  • Use literature to improve technical understanding of the project 

  • Plan and execute experiments as required 

  • Optimize new product with a focus on customer requirement 

  • Troubleshoot assays as required 

  • Develop product formulations based on stability data and customer needs 

  • Manage stability trials of new products 

  • Maintain excellent records using electronic lab notebook system 

  • Liaise with other departments during this process as required 

 

  • New product introduction 

  • Prepare new product documentation (assay protocols, production sheets etc.) 

  • Record progress by use of cross-company checklists  

  • Liaise with other teams as required during product release process 

 

  • Existing product development 

  • Investigate and troubleshoot issues with existing products as required 

  • Develop improvements to existing methodology 

 

General 

  • Present research findings to Line Manager or R&D directors 

  • Participate in the supervision and training of new staff as required  

  • Adhere to Health and Safety policy and guidelines at all times 

  • Prepare relevant documentation, including technical reports, protocols, SOPS etc. 

  • Contribute to the preparation of weekly and monthly cross company reports  

  • Provide scientific support to other departments and teams 

  • Liaise effectively and regularly with other R&D groups within Neogen 

  • Actively participate in conference calls and communicate confidently with colleagues 

  • Liaise effectively with Product Management and Sales teams.

  • Participate in regular organised meetings to discuss active projects and new products 

  • Undertake additional tasks and duties as the business requires 

  • Occasionally it may be necessary to travel as part of this role - this will be discussed prior to trips being booked
