The AVP, Senior Reserving Actuary oversees quarterly and annual reserve reviews, reporting, compliance, and mentorship within the Casualty insurance sector, ensuring adherence to regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

What You’ll Do

          Lead Reserve Reviews

  • Lead quarterly reserve roll-forwards and annual reserve reviews for assigned U.S. casualty portfolios.
  • Develop reserve recommendations supported by robust quantitative and qualitative analysis.
  • Partner with underwriting, claims, pricing, and finance to understand emerging trends and portfolio performance.



    Deliver Financial and Regulatory Reporting

  • Prepare and present quarterly reserving analyses to senior actuarial leadership.
  • Support reserving deliverables across U.S. Statutory, IFRS 17, and Solvency II reporting frameworks.
  • Contribute to regulatory filings, Schedule P, and other statutory reporting requirements.



    Collaborate Across the Business

  • Build strong relationships with business unit leaders and actuarial colleagues to ensure reserving analyses reflect current business conditions.
  • Coordinate feedback discussions that enhance reserve analysis and strengthen cross-functional communication.
  • Support business planning, ORSA, and other strategic actuarial initiatives.



    Drive Reserving Innovation

  • Help improve reserving methodologies, analytics, automation, and reporting processes.
  • Partner with global reserving colleagues to enhance tools, diagnostics, and data foundations.
  • Evaluate new techniques and opportunities to modernize reserving practices.



    Support Governance

  • Assist the Appointed Actuary with the annual Statement of Actuarial Opinion and related documentation.
  • Support interactions with auditors, peer reviewers, regulators, and internal stakeholders.
  • Maintain strong reserving controls and documentation to support governance and compliance.

    Develop Talent

  • Mentor and coach less experienced actuaries.
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive team environment.es
  • Assist with talent development, mentoring and recruiting for open positions.

Qualifications

What We’re Looking For

  • ACAS or FCAS required; FCAS preferred.
  • 5+ years of relevant U.S. Property & Casualty actuarial experience, with significant exposure to casualty reserving.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. Statutory reserving requirements.
  • Exposure to IFRS 17 or Solvency II is a plus but not required.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex actuarial concepts to a variety of audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to build collaborative relationships across actuarial and business functions.
  • Experience with programming, automation, or modern analytical tools (e.g., Python, R, SQL) is a plus. STAT / GAAP, and familiarity with IFRS17 and Solvency II


  • International insurance experience is a plus

Hybrid Work Policy: SCOR is committed to an "in office" culture where people can collaborate, exchange ideas, and establish stronger working relationships while still providing flexibility. To support employee work-life balance and increase opportunities for employees to excel every day, SCOR operates with a hybrid working arrangement. SCOR employees work 3 days per week in an office with the flexibility to work 2 days per week remotely.
Pay Range for roles performed in IL: $162,500-$220,000 NY: $176,000-$239,000 base salary per year. Actual salaries may vary based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience, role and performance.  The range listed is just one component of SCOR's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include annual bonuses, short- and long term incentives. In addition, we provide a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, a retirement saving plan, paid holidays and paid time off.

Skills Required

  • Qualified actuary (FCAS preferred)
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant non-life insurance work experience in the US market
  • Strong expertise in casualty exposures
  • Comprehensive understanding of US regulatory requirements
  • Familiarity with IFRS17 and Solvency II
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to present complex issues to non-actuaries
