POSITION SUMMARY:
The AVP, Global Mobility Tax & Compliance Manager leads the international tax compliance and advisory for our globally mobile workforce. This role ensures compliance with global payroll tax regulations and manages expatriate taxation while driving continuous process improvement and automation initiatives. You will partner with HR, Finance, Payroll, Tax and external advisors to deliver compliant, efficient, and employee-focused solutions. This position combines deep tax expertise with a commitment to operational excellence and leveraging emerging technologies—including AI and automation tools—to transform how we manage global mobility.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Global Mobility Tax Compliance
- Manage tax compliance for international assignments, including shadow payroll, tax equalization, and hypothetical tax calculations.
- Ensure accurate withholding and reporting across multiple jurisdictions (federal, state, local, and international).
- Supervise and review annual tax certificates, cost projections, compensation summaries, and earnings statements for expatriate employees.
- Work with managed services provider on calculation of taxes for long-term incentives for multi-jurisdiction employees.
- Oversee submission of required filings, including certificates of coverage, taxation waivers, and host-country compliance documents.
- Monitor legislative changes and treaty developments impacting global mobility taxation.
Process Improvement & Automation
- Lead the identification and implementation of process improvements and automation opportunities across global mobility tax operations, with the goal of reducing manual effort, improving accuracy, and accelerating turnaround times.
- Evaluate and recommend emerging technologies, including AI-driven tools and robotic process automation (RPA), to enhance tax compliance workflows, data validation, and reporting capabilities.
- Conduct regular process reviews and efficiency audits to identify bottlenecks, redundancies, and areas where automation can deliver measurable value.
- Collaborate with IT, Finance Operations, and external technology partners to design, test, and deploy automation solutions for tax certificate generation, filing submissions, and compliance data reconciliation.
- Define key performance indicators (KPIs) and track improvements in processing time, error rates, and cost efficiency resulting from automation initiatives.
- Champion a culture of continuous improvement and innovation, exploring how AI and advanced analytics can enhance risk assessment, predictive compliance modeling, and employee tax planning.
Advisory & Risk Management
- Provide guidance on tax implications for international assignments, remote work, and cross-border employment strategies.
- Advise on tax-efficient assignment structures and long-term planning for globally mobile employees.
- Communicate complex tax concepts clearly to HR, Finance, and leadership teams.
Payroll & Accounting Integration
- Partner with payroll teams to oversee shadow payrolls, validate compensation reporting, and reconcile payroll ledgers for globally mobile employees.
- Collaborate with HRIS and payroll vendors to maintain accurate tax configurations and drive automation for compliance processes.
- Work with HR Finance and managed services provider on accounting and reporting for tax equalization arrangements.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Act as the subject matter expert for global mobility tax compliance within the organization.
- Coordinate with external tax advisors on international filings, foreign tax credits, and employee consultations.
- Discuss and review net-tax positions with tax-equalized employees.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education & Certifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or related field required;
- Master's degree in Taxation (MST) or MBA with a tax concentration is a plus.
- Professional accounting or tax designation (eg CPA, EA, CTA) required; Big Four audit experience within insurance or reinsurance, strongly preferred
Experience
- 5–8 years of experience in global mobility tax, expatriate taxation, and international payroll tax compliance.
- Strong background in compliance advisory and risk management.
- Experience managing external tax advisors and working in a global environment.
- Demonstrated experience identifying, evaluating, and implementing process improvements or automation initiatives.
- Experience or exposure to AI-driven tools, data analytics, or emerging technologies in tax, compliance, or finance operations is advantageous.
Skills Required
- Deep knowledge of international payroll tax rules, social security treaties, and tax equalization.
- Familiarity with global payroll systems (e.g., Workday, ADP, CloudPay) and advanced Excel skills.

The full-time base salary range for this position is $160,000-$180,000 per year; base salary offered may vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
