Key Responsibilities
- Lead end‑to‑end operational audit engagements, including planning, risk assessment, defining audit scope, developing audit programs, executing testing, and documenting results.
- Identify and assess internal control deficiencies, operational risks, and process gaps; develop practical, actionable recommendations to improve efficiency, reduce risk, and support cost‑savings initiatives.
- Prepare clear and concise audit reports that communicate findings, root causes, risk implications, and recommendations to management.
- Monitor management action plans and verify that corrective actions are implemented effectively and on time.
- Stay current on industry trends, emerging risks, and regulatory developments to ensure audit approaches remain relevant and future‑focused.
- Partner with business leaders and cross‑functional stakeholders to promote strong internal controls and compliance with policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure compliance with Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) professional standards and Protective’s audit methodology, supporting overall quality assurance efforts.
Skills, Abilities & Knowledge Required
- Strong organizational skills with a focus on accuracy, documentation quality, and timely delivery.
- Solid understanding of auditing standards, internal control frameworks, and risk management practices.
- Familiarity with operational processes within financial services or insurance environments preferred.
- Working knowledge of audit tools, data analytics, and emerging technologies — including artificial intelligence or automation — used in audit or business operations.
- Strong analytical and critical‑thinking skills with the ability to assess complex processes and identify meaningful insights.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to convey complex topics clearly to diverse audiences.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build collaborative partnerships across the organization.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and lead others in a team environment.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
- Minimum of 3 years of auditing experience, preferably within the insurance or financial services industry.
- Professional certifications such as Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.
- Proficiency in Excel and audit software; experience with data analytics tools is a plus.
