Supervisory Responsibilities: Provides leadership and oversight to licensed nurses, nursing assistants, Unit Managers, Weekend Supervisors, and other nursing personnel as delegated by the Director of Nursing. Functions as the Acting Director of Nursing during the Director's absence and assumes responsibility for nursing operations as designated. 

Position Summary 

The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) serves as the operational partner to the Director of Nursing by coordinating quality initiatives, maintaining regulatory readiness, organizing nursing department systems, supporting staff accountability, and ensuring efficient day-to-day nursing operations. The ADON assists with the daily management of the Nursing Department while promoting quality resident care, regulatory compliance, operational efficiency, and clinical excellence. This position serves as the Director of Nursing's designee during planned and unplanned absences and works collaboratively with nursing leadership and the interdisciplinary team to support facility goals. 

Nursing Leadership & Operations 

  • Assist the Director of Nursing with the daily operations of the Nursing Department. 

  • Serve as the Director of Nursing designee during planned and unplanned absences. 

  • Provide leadership, guidance, and support to nursing staff and nursing leadership. 

  • Assist with staffing, scheduling, and operational problem-solving. 

  • Participate in nursing leadership meetings and departmental initiatives. 

Quality Assurance & Regulatory Compliance 

  • Coordinate and participate in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) activities. 

  • Perform clinical audits and monitor quality indicators. 

  • Support regulatory compliance, survey readiness, investigations, and corrective action plans. 

Clinical Documentation & Reporting 

  • Review clinical documentation for accuracy, completeness, and regulatory compliance. 

  • Run reports, analyze clinical data, and compile information for leadership meetings, quality initiatives, and regulatory reporting. 

  • Maintain tracking systems supporting nursing operations and performance improvement. 

Administrative & Organizational Support 

  • Maintain organized nursing department binders, files, records, and regulatory documentation. 

  • Organize electronic and paper filing systems. 

  • Prepare reports, meeting materials, committee documentation, and audit records. 

  • Maintain policies, procedures, competencies, education records, and departmental resources. 

Staff Support & Follow-Up 

  • Follow up with staff regarding assigned tasks, audits, education, and corrective actions. 

  • Provide coaching and support to promote accountability and clinical excellence. 

  • Assist with implementation and monitoring of quality improvement initiatives. 

On-Call Responsibilities 

  • Participate in weekday, weekend, and holiday nursing leadership on-call rotations. 

  • Provide clinical and operational leadership after hours and respond to facility needs as appropriate. 

Other Duties 

  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by the Director of Nursing or Administrator in support of resident care, nursing operations, and facility goals. 

Qualifications 

  • Current, unrestricted Ohio Registered Nurse (RN) license. 

  • Long-term care/skilled nursing leadership experience preferred. 

  • Knowledge of CMS regulations and PointClickCare preferred. 

  • Strong organizational, leadership, communication, and critical thinking skills.

Skills Required
