Group/Division

With over 40 years of semiconductor process control experience, chipmakers around the globe rely on KLA to ensure that their fabs ramp next-generation devices to volume production quickly and cost-effectively. Enabling the movement towards advanced chip design, KLA's Global Products Group (GPG), which is responsible for creating all of KLA’s metrology and inspection products, is looking for the best and the brightest research scientist, software engineers, application development engineers, and senior product technology process engineers. The Surfscan group includes a team of engineers, technology development, apps engineers and product marketing focused on technology that enables wafer, IC and equipment manufacturers to develop, qualify and monitor their process tools. Defects and process non-uniformities detected on Surfscan equipment allow for early identification of yield excursions. The flagship Surfscan products include the SPx platforms for wafer surface quality and wafer defect inspection tools and systems for inspection of polished wafers, epi wafers and engineered substrates during the wafer fabrication process.

Job Description/Preferred Qualifications

Role Summary

The role is a career-level, seasoned professional position with strong ownership of design, implementation, and technical leadership. Engineers at this level work on complex software systems, drive architecture and design improvements, and may lead small teams for key feature development.

Key Responsibilities
  • Acquire and demonstrate in-depth technical knowledge of Surfscan software
  • Act as a technology evangelist for the Surfscan product division
  • Work on complex problems requiring detailed analysis and evaluation of multiple factors
  • Ensure designs, code, and unit tests are:
    • Robust
    • Scalable
    • Future-proof
  • Drive software design and architectural improvements
  • Participate in requirements definition and design reviews
  • Provide technical impact assessment for changes to product requirements
  • Contribute technical inputs to estimation and project planning
  • Build understanding of key use cases in Bare Wafer Inspection (IC & Wafer customers)
  • Follow KT-defined software development processes
  • Lead small teams for feature development when required
  • Identify, review, and mitigate technical risks, in collaboration with the Technical Manager
  • Continuously improve software development processes by proposing solutions
  • Stay up to date with new technologies and development methodologies
  • Drive architecture and technical design of components within the platform

Minimum Qualifications

Doctorate (Academic) or work experience of 0 years , Master's Level Degree or work experience of 2 years , Bachelor's Level Degree or work experience of 3 years
