Responsibilities

The Strategic Advisory group is one of the most experienced investment banking teams in the industry, and has been involved in some of the largest, most complex transactions of the past twenty years.  Our global team focuses on a diverse set of industries, including, technology media telecommunications, natural resources, power & utilities, industrials, healthcare, and real estate.

Associates within Strategic Advisory would be responsible for the following:

  • Evaluating, structuring, and recommending financial and strategic alternatives, including the analysis of mergers, acquisitions, and other strategic combinations, asset sales, and divestures.

  • Leading the day-to-day execution of transactions, including due diligence, valuation analysis, and the negotiation of contracts and other agreements; work with senior management and coordinate analyst materials.

  • Analysing financial data and developments in financial markets important to the business of PJT Partners.

  • Conducting research of targeted industries for investment purposes.

  • Performing valuation analysis of prospective investment opportunities under consideration, including the assessment of financial risks.

  • Comparing a company’s financial data with other companies of the same industry, size, and location to the forecast of industry trends.

  • Designing and developing quantitative models to assess the economic performance of targeted companies.

  • Preparing written analysis and evaluations of investment opportunities for use by PJT Partners management and review by clients.

  • Participating in both internal and external client meetings, negotiation of contracts and other agreements, and due diligence sessions.

  • Mentoring and training of juniors, promoting team culture.

In addition, Associates in the Hong Kong team would gain exposure to the Private Capital Solutions and Restructuring and Special Situations groups and be involved across a broad spectrum of strategic transactions including:

  • Financial Sponsor Solutions: Fund recapitalizations, continuation vehicles, fund restructurings, tender offers, preferred equity / other debt oriented solutions, management team spinouts and portfolio asset sales.

  • Structured Liquidity Solutions: Securitizations, refinancings of illiquid financial holdings and joint ventures.

  • Institutional Investor Solutions: Divesture of private fund interests, valuation of private fund interests, transaction structuring and execution support.

  • Restructuring and Special Situations: Corporate recapitalizations, reorganizations, corporate valuations, exchange offers, distressed mergers and acquisitions and raising debt and equity capital.

The Associate will be a critical member of PJT’s expanding Hong Kong team with direct involvement in both deal execution and business development, working on lean deal teams with direct exposure to the PJT’s clients and most senior practitioners. The Associate will work on a wide range of transactions including sellsides, divestitures, acquisitions, leveraged buyouts, joint ventures, equity and debt recapitalizations, private placements and corporate restructurings. Given the lean nature of our teams, all our bankers are flexible and should be prepared to work in products/sectors/countries outside their main area of focus.

Qualifications

PJT Partners seeks to hire individuals who are highly motivated, intelligent and have demonstrated excellence in prior endeavors. In addition, qualified candidates will possess the following:

  • Minimum 2-3 years of relevant Investment Banking experience with particular focus on M&A and Corporate Finance

  • Fluency in English and at least one additional Asian language is required. Fluency in Korean is strongly preferred

  • Strong analytical and modelling skills, with demonstrated buy-side and sell-side execution experience

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Strong work ethic and ability to work effectively in lean deal teams
