Junior Legal Counsel

Support the Head of Legal/Legal Director in delivering a professional and effective legal function within the Legal and Compliance Department of Manulife (Vietnam) Limited. Provide practical legal advice and support to business functions, help manage legal risks, and contribute to the Company’s legal initiatives and projects.

Position Responsibilities:

• Provide practical legal advice to business functions, including operations and distribution channels, primarily on insurance regulations, insurance contracts, and sales-related matters.
• Provide legal advice on customer complaints and insurance claims, including the review of proposed responses and the assessment of related legal issues.
• Assist in managing litigation and disputes, including coordinating with external counsel and relevant internal stakeholders.
• Review insurance policy wording and supporting product materials for legal compliance, clarity, and consistency.
• Draft and review the Company’s responses and correspondence to regulators and external agencies on matters within the Legal function’s scope of responsibility.
• Identify and assess legal risks arising from the Company’s business and operations, and recommend practical measures to mitigate those risks.
• Support the delivery of the Legal function’s strategic initiatives and projects in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
• Perform other legal duties appropriate to the role, as assigned by the General Counsel, Head of Legal, or Legal Director.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Law. A lawyer’s practising certificate is an advantage.
• At least 3 years of relevant legal work experience. Experience in life insurance and litigation is preferred.
• Strong analytical skills, resourcefulness, and the ability to learn quickly.
• Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and deliver high-quality work under pressure.
• Strong legal research, communication, drafting, and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency in written and spoken English.
• A collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively with colleagues across business functions.
