About the team

The Regulatory & Compliance team helps Airwallex grow responsibly as a global financial platform. We work at the intersection of law, regulation, risk, and business execution, partnering closely with teams across the company to navigate complexity, enable growth, and protect the trust our customers, partners, and regulators place in us. It's a team for people who are thoughtful, practical, and energized by solving hard problems in a fast-moving, highly regulated environment.

What you'll do

As the Senior Manager, Obligations Management, you will manage and continue to develop the central governance infrastructure used to identify, catalog, and track regulatory and financial partner requirements across Airwallex’s global footprint.
As part of a global central team, you will own the design, development, and day-to-day operation and continuous improvement of the global obligations register, mapping statutory, regulatory, and financial partner requirements to internal compliance controls and accountable owners. You will also manage the institutional RFI knowledge base and central global audit register, helping ensure traceability of control performance and disciplined tracking of issues through verified closure.
You will work closely with Regulatory Legal, Regulatory Compliance, Internal Audit, Second-Line Risk, and other cross-functional stakeholders to translate legal and regulatory requirements into a structured, data-driven, and audit-ready compliance inventory. This role is well suited to a practical operator who can bring structure to complex information, improve processes, and drive consistent execution across a distributed global organization.

This role has a global mandate and can be based in the US or EMEA.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and continuously improve the central Global Obligations Register, cataloging international regulatory rules, statutory requirements, and Tier-1 financial partner obligations alongside their respective compliance controls

  • Partner with Risk and Compliance stakeholders to ensure mapped controls and reporting obligations are structured for effective independent monitoring, validation, and testing

  • Manage and evolve the centralized global RFI knowledge base, synthesizing input from Regulatory Compliance teams and curating consistent, well-supported evidence portfolios for banking partners and regulatory bodies

  • Maintain the global central audit register, tracking internal audit findings, external examination gaps, and material regulatory issues, and driving timely accountability for remediation and closure

  • Partner with Regulatory Legal teams to incorporate legal interpretations and horizon-scanning insights, keeping the obligations registry current and reducing the risk of compliance gaps or control drift

  • Establish and improve operating procedures, data standards, governance routines, and reporting for obligations management, RFI responses, and audit issue tracking

  • Identify opportunities to replace manual trackers and spreadsheet dependencies with scalable GRC tooling, workflow automation, and compliance dashboards; support implementation and adoption with relevant stakeholders

  • Coordinate and influence regional and cross-functional contributors to maintain consistent central standards while reflecting local regulatory requirements

  • Produce clear management reporting and concise analysis on obligations coverage, control mapping, RFI readiness, audit issues, remediation progress, and emerging risks

Who you are

We're looking for people who meet the minimum requirements for this role. The preferred qualifications are great to have, but are not mandatory.

Minimum qualifications

  • 8–10+ years of experience in corporate governance, regulatory compliance, internal audit, operational risk management, or a related discipline within a highly regulated financial services, fintech, or banking environment

  • 3+ years of experience managing a compliance inventory, regulatory obligations framework, audit issue program, RFI process, or GRC workstream in a multi-jurisdictional environment

  • Demonstrated experience building or maintaining compliance matrices, mapping internal controls to regulatory requirements, managing audit or examination issues, and coordinating evidence or RFI responses

  • Strong ability to translate complex regulatory or legal requirements into clear processes, data structures, ownership models, and actionable reporting

  • A high-ownership, systematic approach to problem-solving, with strong written communication and corporate drafting skills

  • Proven ability to influence and coordinate regional and cross-functional teams in a global, matrixed organization without relying solely on formal authority

  • Experience improving operational processes and implementing practical tooling, workflows, or reporting solutions in a fast-growing environment.

Preferred qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law, Public Policy, Risk Management, Business Administration, or a related analytical discipline

  • Juris Doctor (JD), Master of Laws (LLM), or a master’s degree in Regulatory Compliance, Risk Management, or Business Administration

  • Professional designation such as Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), or an equivalent GRC-related credential

  • Experience working within a high-growth cross-border payments company, top-tier neobank, or API-driven digital platform handling high volumes of regulated transactions

  • Direct experience selecting, deploying, or configuring Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) software to support regulatory mapping, evidence management, issue remediation, or workflow automation

  • Experience leading projects or mentoring colleagues in obligations management, regulatory change management, compliance operations, audit, or related programs
