POSITION OVERVIEW

Reporting to the Vice President, Business Performance & Effectiveness, the Associate Vice President, Business Planning and Operational Implementation is responsible for enabling the successful delivery of the COO agenda and BDC's Corporate Plan. Acting as a trusted advisor to the COO and COO Leadership Team, the AVP leads a diverse team responsible enterprise business planning, shapes and advances high-priority operational initiatives, and drives the implementation of critical transformation and business priorities across the COO portfolio.

The AVP partners with leaders across the COO group, Corporate Strategy, Client Experience, and enabling functions to align priorities, resolve trade-offs, and accelerate initiatives critical to BDC's strategy, Corporate Plan, and COO objectives. Through strategic insight, rigorous prioritization, and execution leadership, the role translates complex business challenges into actionable plans, mobilizes cross-functional teams, and delivers measurable business outcomes.


WHAT WE ARE LOOKING


Key Responsibilities

1. Planning & Business Alignment

  • Lead the development and execution of the COO's multi-year strategic plan, ensuring alignment with BDC's Corporate Plan and enterprise priorities.
  • Define the COO annual business plan and monitor portfolio progress (BUP) 
  • Partner with COO senior leaders and regional/business line leaders to define priorities, establish clear objectives, and translate strategic direction into actionable plans.
  • Facilitate enterprise prioritization discussions and leadership decision-making by identifying dependencies, risks, investment requirements, and trade-offs.
  • Drive the annual planning cycle for the COO portfolio, including strategic priorities, business plans, performance objectives, and resource alignment.
  • Monitor emerging trends, business performance, and strategic risks to inform planning and executive decision-making.

2. Initiatives Planning & Management

  • Define and structure high-priority COO initiatives by clarifying the business problem, desired outcomes, scope, dependencies, and decision points.
  • Build the fact base and analysis required to assess options, risks, investments, trade-offs, and expected value.
  • Develop clear recommendations, business cases, and sequencing options to support executive decision-making.
  • Align senior stakeholders on priorities, outcomes, and choices before initiatives move into implementation.
  • Prepare executive materials that frame key decisions, implications, and recommended paths forward.

3. Initiative Implementation

  • Lead a team responsible for moving approved COO initiatives from decision to delivery, with clear ownership and execution plans.
  • Establish the governance, operating rhythm, milestones, and decision processes needed to keep initiatives on track.
  • Mobilize business units, support functions, and delivery teams to execute agreed plans and resolve issues quickly.
  • Track progress against milestones, risks, KPIs, and expected benefits, escalating decisions when needed.
  • Ensure implementation delivers intended business outcomes and embeds sustainable improvements across the COO organization.

 

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR


  • 10 - 12 years relevant financial experience; including 3 – 5 years in strategy, or strategy implementation is a nice to have.
  • Strong understanding of the financing business is important to ensure initiatives are practical, field-ready, and aligned with client and business realities
  • The ideal candidate would have both BDC business knowledge and project work experience allowing them to drive execution and stakeholder alignment while ensuring relevant, actionable and field ready strategies.
  • Proven ability to influence executives, facilitate alignment, and drive decisions across diverse stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex, sensitive, cross-functional mandates simultaneously.
  • Experience translating strategy into executable plans, including roadmaps, governance, success metrics, implementation plans, and operating model considerations.
  • Strong people leadership skills, with the ability to build, coach, and motivate a high-performing team.
  • Superior executive communication skills, including clear, concise, decision-oriented documents and presentations.
  • Strong business judgment, tact, discretion, and comfort operating in a senior leadership environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in commerce, business administration, strategy, finance, or a related field; graduate degree considered an asset.
  • Bilingualism in French and English is required
