Our SelectLeaders Client is an established construction firm specializing in high-end construction projects throughout New York City. The company is known for its commitment to quality, craftsmanship, client service, and delivering complex projects with a high level of precision.

 

They are seeking an Assistant Project Manager to join their team and support the successful delivery of high-end construction projects from pre-construction through completion. This is an excellent opportunity for a construction professional looking to take the next step in their career and develop their project management skills within a collaborative, NYC construction environment.

 

The Assistant Project Manager will work closely with the Project Manager, Site Superintendent, subcontractors, architects, designers, consultants, and vendors to keep projects organized and moving forward. This individual will support project documentation, procurement, cost tracking, scheduling, change orders, and day-to-day project coordination.

 

The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, detail-oriented, and eager to take on increasing responsibility while learning from an experienced project team.

Responsibilities

    Project Coordination & Administration

     

    • Support the Project Manager with the day-to-day administration and coordination of assigned construction projects.

    • Maintain accurate and organized project documentation, including contracts, drawings, specifications, RFIs, submittals, meeting minutes, and correspondence.

    • Assist with tracking project schedules, milestones, and deliverables.

    • Coordinate information between the Project Manager, Superintendent, subcontractors, architects, designers, and consultants.

    • Follow up on outstanding project items and help ensure deadlines are met.

    • Participate in project meetings and assist with meeting agendas, notes, and follow-up items.

    • Help identify potential project issues and bring them to the attention of the Project Manager.

    •  

      Cost & Financial Support

       

      • Assist with tracking project budgets, commitments, invoices, and expenditures.

      • Review subcontractor and vendor invoices for accuracy and proper documentation.

      • Support project forecasting and cost reporting.

      • Assist with subcontractor buyout and procurement activities.

      • Track change orders, potential changes, and related documentation.

      • Maintain accurate records of project costs and commitments.

        Scheduling & Procurement

         

        • Assist the Project Manager with developing and maintaining project schedules.

        • Track procurement activities and long-lead materials.

        • Coordinate with subcontractors and vendors regarding material lead times and deliveries.

        • Monitor project milestones and follow up on schedule-related items.

        • Work with the Superintendent to coordinate project needs and field activities.

        • Help identify potential schedule conflicts and delays.

        •  

          Construction Administration

           

          • Assist with managing RFIs, submittals, approvals, and related project correspondence.

          • Review drawings and specifications and help coordinate information between project stakeholders.

          • Assist with processing and tracking change orders.

          • Coordinate with architects, engineers, designers, and consultants to obtain information and resolve project issues.

          • Support permitting, inspections, and other project requirements as needed.

          • Maintain organized and up-to-date project files.

          •  

            Subcontractor & Vendor Coordination

             

            • Communicate with subcontractors and vendors regarding schedules, documentation, procurement, and project requirements.

            • Assist with subcontractor onboarding and contract administration.

            • Track subcontractor deliverables, insurance, paperwork, and other required documentation.

            • Support the Project Manager in monitoring subcontractor performance and addressing outstanding issues.

              Project Closeout

               

              • Assist with project punch-list and closeout activities.

              • Track completion of warranties, O&M manuals, closeout documents, and other required deliverables.

              • Coordinate with subcontractors and vendors to collect outstanding closeout documentation.

              • Support final project accounting and contract closeout.

Qualifications

    • 3+ years of construction experience, preferably within a general contracting environment.

    • NYC construction required.

    • Experience with high-end interior construction.

    • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or a related field preferred.

    • Understanding of construction processes, project documentation, scheduling, procurement, and cost tracking.

    • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, plans, and specifications.

    • Experience working with subcontractors, vendors, architects, designers, and consultants.

    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

    • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

    • Proactive approach to following up on outstanding items and keeping projects organized.

    • Proficiency with construction management software; Procore and/or MS Project experience preferred.

    • Strong Microsoft Excel skills.

    • Interest in developing into a Project Manager role with increasing responsibility.

      Work Environment

       

      This is an in-person position based in Long Island City, Queens, with regular interaction with project teams and construction sites throughout New York City. Regular visits to active construction sites may be required, including navigating active job-site conditions and complying with applicable safety requirements.
