Procon seeks an experienced Assistant Project Manager to support the District of Columbia Department of General Services (DGS) and DC Public Schools (DCPS) Capital Construction Program in Washington, DC. The selected candidate will serve as the Owner’s Representative, managing and supporting school modernization, renovation, capital improvement, and facility infrastructure projects throughout the full project lifecycle, including planning, procurement, design, preconstruction, construction, occupancy, closeout, and turnover. Projects may include occupied school renovations, major modernizations, additions, athletic facilities, campus improvements, and building systems upgrades. Ideal candidates will have experience with K-12 schools, educational facilities, higher education, or public-sector capital improvement programs; however, professionals with comparable commercial, municipal, healthcare, government, transit, or institutional construction experience will also be considered. This role requires various skills and experience as listed below.

RequirementsQualifications and Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, Building Construction, Project Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience supporting construction, engineering, facilities, or capital improvement projects.
  • Knowledge of construction processes, project delivery methods, and project controls.
  • Familiarity with construction documents, change orders, submittals, RFIs, and project closeout procedures.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments and competing priorities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience supporting educational facilities, K-12 schools, higher education, public-sector, healthcare, or institutional construction projects preferred.
  • Experience working with an Owner’s Representative, construction manager, general contractor, architecture/engineering firm, or public agency preferred.
  • Familiarity with project management and scheduling software, including Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, document management platforms, or comparable systems.
Responsibilities and Duties
  • Support Project Managers with the successful delivery of DCPS modernization and capital improvement projects.
  • Assist with projects throughout planning, procurement, design, construction, closeout, and turnover.
  • Support scope development, RFP preparation, contractor procurement, and consultant coordination.
  • Track project schedules, budgets, milestones, action items, risks, and deliverables.
  • Participate in design reviews, progress meetings, site visits, and stakeholder coordination meetings.
  • Assist with monitoring contractor performance related to schedule, cost, quality, and project requirements.
  • Review and track submittals, RFIs, meeting minutes, payment requests, change documentation, and closeout materials.
  • Maintain accurate project files, logs, reports, correspondence, and document control systems.
  • Coordinate communication among Project Managers, contractors, consultants, school representatives, and other stakeholders.
  • Support punch list development, project turnover, financial closeout, warranty documentation, and final acceptance activities.
  • Assist with preparing project status reports, meeting materials, and other required project documentation.
Physical Requirements

This position requires regular onsite presence in an active construction environment. The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation, including:

  • Walking and standing for extended periods while performing site observations and inspections.
  • Navigating active construction areas, including stairs, uneven surfaces, temporary walkways, and varying elevations.
  • Occasionally bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, and climbing as necessary to observe construction activities.
  • Accessing mechanical, electrical, utility, process, and other construction areas as required.
  • Wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE) and complying with all applicable site safety requirements.
  • Working in indoor and outdoor environments with exposure to typical construction-site conditions, including noise, dust, weather, and temperature fluctuations.
  • Occasionally lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds.
