Summary Generated by Built In

Sportyard is a one-of-a-kind indoor sports and entertainment facility where kids, families, and adults come to play, compete, and have fun.

Our 15,000-square-foot James Island facility features basketball, football, soccer, baseball, hockey, lacrosse, trick shots, and competitive games. We host open play, birthday parties, camps, classes, leagues, and private events.

We're growing, with a second Charleston-area location planned in Mount Pleasant, and we're looking for someone who wants to grow with us.

We're hiring an Assistant Operations Manager to help lead our James Island facility.

This is a hands-on leadership position. You'll help manage daily operations, oversee employees, interact with customers, and make sure Sportyard is running smoothly.

Some days you'll be running the front desk. Other days you'll be leading games, managing birthday parties, or supervising the entire facility.

We're looking for someone who takes initiative, leads by example, and doesn't wait to be told what needs to get done.

For the right person, this role offers an opportunity to grow into managing a Sportyard location as we expand.

What You'll Do

Lead Daily Operations

  • Serve as Manager on Duty, overseeing the facility and staff during assigned shifts.
  • Help manage our front desk and Zone Facilitator teams.
  • Ensure employees are engaged, productive, and following company procedures.
  • Handle customer questions, issues, and operational challenges independently.
  • Oversee opening, closing, cleaning, and facility maintenance checklists.

Deliver a Great Customer Experience

  • Welcome guests, manage check-ins, and process registrations.
  • Help customers with memberships, events, camps, and classes.
  • Ensure kids and families have a safe, fun, and memorable experience.
  • Help manage birthday parties, private events, and group activities.

Get in the Game

  • Lead and participate in sports games and challenges.
  • Engage with kids and adults throughout the facility.
  • Jump into any role when needed, whether that's front desk, games, setup, or cleanup.
  • Help maintain our sports equipment and game areas.

Help Build the Team

  • Assist with training and developing employees.
  • Provide guidance and accountability during shifts.
  • Identify opportunities to improve operations and customer experience.
  • Work directly with our Operations Manager to learn how to run a Sportyard location.

Requirements
  • At least 18 years old.
  • Available to work afternoons, evenings, and weekends.
  • Comfortable working with kids, families, and adults.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Reliable, organized, and able to take initiative.
  • Comfortable being physically active throughout a shift.
  • Willing to handle everything from managing employees to cleaning and facility maintenance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience.
  • Experience in sports, recreation, hospitality, retail, entertainment, or customer service.
  • Background in coaching, athletics, or working with kids.
  • Experience opening or closing a business independently.
What Makes Someone Successful Here?

We value people who:

  • Take ownership. You see something that needs to be done and handle it.
  • Lead by example. You're willing to do anything you'd ask another employee to do.
  • Bring energy. You enjoy sports, competition, and interacting with people.
  • Solve problems. You can make good decisions without constantly asking for direction.
  • Want to grow. You're interested in developing leadership skills and taking on greater responsibility.
Growth Opportunity

Sportyard is expanding in the Charleston area, including a planned second location in Mount Pleasant.

We're looking for someone who can become a key part of our management team, with the potential to advance into a Location Manager position at either James Island or Mount Pleasant.

Advancement will depend on performance, demonstrated leadership, and business needs.
