At Mentee Robotics, we are redefining humanoid automation with an AI-first approach - combining perception, reasoning, and dexterous manipulation into fully autonomous systems that continuously learn and improve. We offer an exceptional opportunity to participate in building next-generation commercial humanoid robots from 0 to 1, alongside competitive compensation, and an international engineering environment. We are expanding with a new robotics Engineering Center in China, working hand-in-hand with our engineering teams in headquarters. Its mission: to rapidly develop our next-generation full-size humanoid platform and bring it to production.
We are looking for an Assembly Process Engineer to design, establish, optimize, and scale electro-mechanical assembly processes, assembly tooling, work instructions, line balancing, and quality verification checkpoints for our full-scale humanoid robots and integrated joint modules.
Who you are?
- Assembly engineering specialist deeply experienced in precision electro-mechanical assembly, production line routing, error-proofing (Poka-Yoke), and cycle-time optimization.
- Hands-on maker who spends time on the pilot line validating work instructions, designing ergonomic assembly jigs, and tackling assembly non-conformances.
- Continuous improver dedicated to DFM/DFA feed-forward, PFMEA, standardized work, and transitioning prototype designs into scalable batch production.
- A strong collaborator across mechanical design, harness, quality control, and shop-floor technicians.
What will your job look like:
- Develop end-to-end assembly process routes, standard operating procedures (SOPs), process flowcharts, and PFMEAs for humanoid joints and whole-body integration.
- Design custom assembly fixtures, alignment jigs, press-fitting tools, and cable routing templates to guarantee high precision and repeatable quality.
- Drive DFM/DFA (Design for Manufacturing / Design for Assembly) reviews with structural and electrical hardware teams to optimize joint integration and ease of assembly.
- Define precise fast-fastening torque specifications, thread locking compound procedures, potting/thermal paste dispensing, and cable harness routing rules.
- Plan pilot assembly line layouts, workstation ergonomics, assembly line balancing, cycle time targets (Takt time), and capacity expansion roadmaps.
- Train assembly technicians, manage pilot batch assembly operations, track pass rates, and resolve dynamic production bottlenecks.
- Implement Poka-Yoke (error-proofing) solutions, torque-tracking smart tools, and end-of-line quality verification gates.
- Collaborate with supply chain and quality teams to establish incoming component inspection (IQC) tooling and fixture standards.
All you need is:
- B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related technical fields.
- 7+ years of assembly process engineering experience in precision electro-mechanical assemblies, robotics, automotive subsystems, or complex machinery.
- Mastery of 3D CAD tools (SolidWorks, Creo, or NX) for fixture design and 3D assembly sequence simulation.
- Proven track record in developing SOPs, PFMEAs, assembly line balancing, and cycle time (Takt time) reduction.
- Deep knowledge of precision assembly methods: bearing press-fitting, preload adjustment, adhesive potting, torque control, and dense harness routing.
- Strong root-cause problem-solving capabilities (8D, 5-Why) and practical experience with Lean Manufacturing principles.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for training technicians and interfacing with design engineering teams.
Nice to have:
- Direct experience establishing assembly lines for humanoid robots, robotic arms, quadrupeds, or precision joint actuators.
- Experience with semi-automated press-fit equipment, smart electric screwdrivers with data logging, and MES systems.
- Familiarity with NPI (New Product Introduction) process gates and prototype-to-mass-production transfer.
- Comfortable communicating technical topics in English with international teams.
