Aladdin Accounting is one of the fastest-growing businesses within Aladdin and represents a significant strategic investment for BlackRock. The team builds and operates the technology platforms that power accurate, scalable, and efficient accounting across global operations. Our engineers develop business-critical application, data, reporting, and workflow systems while driving modernization through distributed architectures, advanced data platforms, and engineering innovation. Working closely with Product, Operations, Data, and Engineering partners, the team delivers capabilities that support BlackRock and the broader Aladdin client ecosystem.
Your role and impact
As an Engineering Director, Application Engineering, you will serve as a senior technology leader responsible for shaping architecture, engineering strategy, and delivery across enterprise-scale platforms supporting global post-trade operations. You will connect long-term technology vision with pragmatic execution, influence critical technical decisions, and help develop the next generation of engineering leaders. This role combines deep technical expertise with organizational leadership, enabling you to drive modernization, improve platform resiliency, and deliver meaningful business outcomes at scale.
Your responsibilities

The scope of this role also includes the following responsibilities:
Define and drive technology strategy, target-state architecture, and engineering direction across application and data platforms while ensuring alignment with broader Aladdin strategy.
Provide technical leadership for distributed application, integration, and data platforms, guiding critical design and architecture decisions across enterprise technologies.
Translate business priorities into executable technology roadmaps, leading modernization initiatives and balancing technical debt reduction with delivery objectives.
Establish engineering standards and ensure solutions are designed for quality, resilience, security, operational excellence, and governance.
Partner with business and technology stakeholders to evaluate strategic trade-offs, manage dependencies, and maximize business outcomes.
Develop senior engineering talent and foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Drive adoption of AI-enabled engineering capabilities and intelligent automation opportunities while maintaining appropriate risk and control standards.
Your experience
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field with a minimum of 12 years of demonstrated leadership experience across enterprise-scale software engineering environments.
Deep expertise in modern application architecture, distributed systems, microservices, application programming interfaces (APIs), event-driven architectures, and enterprise software design.
Strong technical depth across enterprise application development and data architecture, including large-scale processing, data modeling, performance optimization, and software engineering best practices.
Experience designing and operating large-scale application and data platforms using modern messaging, caching, and distributed processing approaches.
Demonstrated success defining technology strategy, leading complex multi-team initiatives, and balancing modernization investments with delivery objectives.
Strong leadership, communication, decision-making, risk management, reliability, security, and operational excellence capabilities within business-critical environments.
Exposure to artificial intelligence (AI), large language model (LLM) concepts, cloud-native platforms, observability technologies, automation frameworks, and regulated financial-services environments.

Our hybrid work model

Skills Required
