Reporting to the Manager, Investment Accounting, the Analyst is a key team contributor supporting high-quality and timely execution of monthly accounting and general ledger close activities and financial reporting for certain OMERS investment entities and business units. The incumbent will build strong foundational knowledge of investment accounting, systems, internal controls, audit evidence, and stakeholder requirements, collaborate with cross-functional teams and participate in process improvements.


You will be responsible for:

  • Executing monthly close tasks accurately and on time, collecting, organizing, and analyzing information from a variety of sources.
  • Preparation of standard journal entries, reconciliations, workpapers, and initial variance analyses for review, performing reasonableness and completeness checks.
  • Supporting financial statement schedules, note disclosure inputs, investment roll forwards, reports, and audit evidence requests.
  • Leveraging technology and automation tools to improve task efficiency, data quality, and process consistency while ensuring appropriate internal controls.
  • Developing foundational knowledge of OMERS’ investment accounting processes, systems, investment entity activities, and technical accounting requirements.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to obtain and/or verify inputs for monthly and quarterly reports as necessary.
  • Seeking feedback, incorporating review comments, and building ownership of assigned deliverables while contributing to a collaborative team culture.

Required Skills & Experience: 


  • Professional Qualifications: 2+ years of relevant experience, which may include co-op, accounting, audit, fund administration, or investment accounting. Working towards a CPA designation.
  • Execution & Documentation Quality: Strong attention to detail, organization, reliability, and follow-through on assigned work, with care for accuracy. Eagerness to identify and implement new processes for operational efficiency.
  • Tools & Data Comfort: Proficiency with Excel and Microsoft Office, with comfort working with data, documentation, reconciliations, and approved digital tools. Exposure to Power BI, Power Query, automation, or investment systems is an asset.
  • Communication & Collaboration: Professional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to follow accounting procedures, ask questions, communicate status, and incorporate review comments.
  • Learning Mindset & Team Contribution: Intellectual curiosity, eagerness to learn, openness to feedback, responsiveness, and the ability to work collaboratively within a team and perform effectively in periodic, higher-pressure situations.

Preferred Skills & Experience:


  • Relevant Industry or Audit Experience: Exposure to investment accounting, fund administration, or financial services audit. Big Four audit experience, particularly involving investment funds, asset managers, or other financial services clients, would be an asset.
  • Systems & Process Improvement: Exposure to investment accounting or enterprise systems, eFront, Power BI, Power Query, or other automation tools, with an interest in improving reporting, controls, and operational efficiency.

The expected salary range for this position is $72,000.00 - $108,000.00 per year.
