JOB SUMMARY
The Liberty Company Insurance Brokers is looking for an AI-enabled developer to design, build, and ship the internal applications, integrations, and automations that power how our brokerage works. This role builds on Liberty’s internal platform: web applications, AI assistants, and tool servers that connect producers, account managers, and operations teams to data from our agency management systems, carrier feeds, document systems, and finance platforms.
The ideal candidate has made AI coding assistants and agents a core part of how they build software, and pairs that speed with the engineering discipline to ship reliable, secure, production-grade code. You will work across the stack, from SQL and APIs through the user interface, and be comfortable deploying and running what you build on Microsoft Azure. This is not an AI research role or a systems administration role. It is a hands-on software engineering role for someone who builds with AI every day.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
AI-Enabled Application Development
- Design, build, and maintain internal web applications, automations, and integrations, using AI coding assistants and agents (for example, Claude Code) as a primary part of the development workflow.
- Turn business and operational needs from Operations, Sales, Finance, BI, and other Liberty teams into working software, from first prototype through production release.
- Build AI-powered features and assistants on large language model APIs, including tool calling, retrieval over company data, and MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers that give AI assistants safe, scoped access to Liberty systems.
- Build and maintain integrations with agency management systems, carrier platforms, document management, Microsoft 365, and other line-of-business tools through their APIs.
- Write automated tests, and design evaluations for AI features so their behavior is measured rather than assumed.
- Apply sound software engineering practice (code review, version control, pull requests, CI, and documentation) to everything shipped, regardless of how much of it was AI-generated.
Platform, Data & Delivery
- Deploy and operate the applications you build on Microsoft Azure (App Service, Entra ID, Key Vault, Application Insights), working with IT on infrastructure, identity, and security.
- Write efficient SQL against Liberty’s SQL Server / Azure SQL data warehouse, and partner with the data team on the models, views, and pipelines your applications depend on.
- Build role-based access, audit logging, and data handling controls into applications that touch production, sensitive, or regulated data, within Liberty’s security and compliance guardrails.
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and improve production applications for performance, reliability, and cost.
AI Practice & Enablement
- Evaluate and responsibly adopt new AI coding tools, models, and agent workflows, and share the practices that raise the team’s development speed and quality.
- Help colleagues across the business get more from AI tools, and document reusable patterns, prompts, and skills.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of professional software development experience building and shipping production applications.
- Strong proficiency in Python or another modern language (for example, C# or TypeScript), plus working knowledge of JavaScript, HTML, and CSS for web front ends.
- Demonstrated experience building software with AI coding assistants or agents (for example, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or Cursor) as part of a real development workflow, not just casual use, with examples you can walk us through.
- Hands-on experience building on large language model APIs (for example, Anthropic Claude or Azure OpenAI), including prompt design, tool calling, and handling model output safely.
- Experience designing and integrating with REST APIs, including OAuth 2.0 / OpenID Connect authentication.
- Solid SQL skills and experience working with relational databases such as SQL Server.
- Fluency with Git, pull request workflows, automated testing, and CI/CD.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and comfort owning an application end to end, from requirements through production support.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical tradeoffs to non-technical stakeholders.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience building or integrating with MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers or other agentic tool-calling architectures.
- Experience deploying and operating applications on Microsoft Azure (App Service, Entra ID, Key Vault, Application Insights) with GitHub Actions.
- Experience building evaluations, guardrails, or monitoring for AI features in production.
- Experience in insurance, brokerage, or financial services, or with agency management systems such as Applied Epic or AMS360.
- Familiarity with data security and privacy requirements relevant to insurance and financial data.
- Experience mentoring other developers on AI-assisted development practices.
