Tempus is seeking a highly qualified AI Data Science Summer Analyst to work with us for the summer of 2026. This internship is focused on applying data science and machine learning techniques to streamline business operations through automation. You will work within a dynamic team to help implement AI-driven solutions, specifically focusing on Large Language Models (LLMs) for document processing and data extraction. The goal of this role is to support the modernization of business workflows and improve operational efficiency through technical innovation.

As a AI Data Science Intern, you will:
Support the design and testing of machine learning models and NLP algorithms for document processing.
Perform data cleaning, preprocessing, and exploratory data analysis (EDA) on diverse datasets.
Assist in the deployment of LLM-based tools to automate documentation and data extraction.
Collaborate with team members to integrate AI models into existing business and operational workflows.
Document technical workflows and help translate business requirements into technical tasks.
Qualifications:
Currently pursuing or recently completed a B.Sc. in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related technical field.
Foundational understanding of machine learning principles and automated data processing.
Interest in applying AI to solve real-world business and operational challenges.
Strong programming skills in Python (fundamental libraries like pandas and NumPy).
Basic understanding of Natural Language Processing (NLP) and supervised learning.
Familiarity with SQL for data retrieval and manipulation.
Exposure to machine learning frameworks (e.g., Scikit-learn, PyTorch, or TensorFlow) through coursework or projects.
Knowledge of data visualization tools (e.g., Matplotlib, Seaborn).
Basic familiarity with version control (Git) is a plus.
Relevant academic projects or internships involving data analysis and machine learning.
Experience cleaning and organizing large datasets for analysis.
Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset for working in a team environment.
Additional Details:
You will spend 9 or 11 weeks working in our Chicago office.
The internship will be a hybrid, onsite 3 days/week with the option to work remotely the remaining days.
The program will run in two waves, commencing June/July and running through August/September (dependent upon your school calendar and availability).
A competitive hourly wage will be provided for the summer employment and a relocation bonus to help offset some of the relocation costs and resources to help you find housing.
CHI: $25 hr
The expected salary range above is applicable if the role is performed from Illinois and may vary for other locations (California, Colorado, New York). Actual salary may vary based on qualifications and experience.
