 Sompo has a unique opportunity for an Accounting Assistant in our Continental Finance team. 

We are seeking an Accounting Assistant for our branch in Germany. This individual will be responsible for the accounts processing, recording and reporting in our Cologne office, reporting to the Accounting Manager.

What you’ll be doing:

• Assuming responsibility and demonstrating a high level of interest in daily accounting operations.

• Strong interest in accounting tasks (e.g., general ledger, expenses, banking transactions, etc.)

• Providing support to the Senior Accountant in the preparation and review of monthly bank account reconciliations and other balance sheet accounts.

• Preparation of Z4 and Z5 reporting to the Bundesbank

• Accounts payable accounting and creation of payment runs in Concur/SAP

• Preparation of manual payments and bank transfers

• Act as a liaison person locally to assist the tax team regarding VAT information (e.g. invoices etc.)

What you’ll bring:

• Fully qualified accountant with at least 2 years’ experience

• German and English speaker

• Experience in accounts payable accounting

• Experience with SAP/Concur or other ERP systems

• Insurance sector experience would be advantageous

• Good communication skills, both written and verbal

• Effective time-management and organizational skills

• Advanced spreadsheet skills, strong practical knowledge of Excel

• Careful consideration of financial accuracy

• Proven ability to learn quickly

• Forward thinker and somebody with initiative to develop and improve themselves.
