The Accounting and Reporting Manager role offers the opportunity to lead critical areas of financial reporting, including compensation accounting and expense management, while overseeing the accurate preparation, analysis, and delivery of financial statements. The position owns key aspects of the monthly and quarterly close cycles, ensuring accuracy and compliance with U.S. GAAP, SOX, and other regulatory requirements.
The role provides significant cross-functional exposure, partnering with business leaders to align financial reporting with strategic objectives while delivering complex financial analysis and insights to management. It also includes responsibility for establishing and maintaining strong internal controls, supporting audits, and driving continuous process improvements and system enhancements.
This position offers leadership and team management experience, including mentoring and developing accounting professionals, strengthening reporting capabilities, and influencing financial processes across the organization.

What will your job entail?

Hybrid position out of Chicago, IL

Job Responsibilities:

  • Oversee accounting for key areas including compensation (bonuses, commissions, incentive plans, and acquisition-related compensation), operating expenses, vendor accruals, prepaids, fixed assets, and cash
  • Manage and supervise day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, cash receipts, and general ledger activity
  • Ensure timely and accurate recognition of expenses through oversight of the vendor accrual process
  • Lead the preparation and review of journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules (including lead schedules and roll-forwards)
  • Monitor and reconcile general ledger accounts, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting policies
  • Execute and manage the monthly and quarterly close process, coordinating timelines and deliverables across the team
  • Prepare and review financial reporting schedules, including support for external reporting and audit requirements
  • Perform detailed variance and flux analysis to identify trends, explain results, and investigate discrepancies
  • Establish and enforce proper accounting methods, internal controls, and compliance with U.S. GAAP and SOX standards
  • Coordinate annual audits, maintain audit-ready documentation, and provide recommendations for process improvements
  • Develop and maintain financial policies, procedures, and documentation, including within a new ERP system
  • Maintain accurate fiscal records and documentation to support all financial transactions
  • Provide leadership to the accounting team, including assigning work, reviewing deliverables, and ensuring accuracy and timeliness
  • Coach, mentor, and develop team members, delivering ongoing performance feedback and supporting professional growth
  • Partner with Finance IT to enhance system capabilities, build reporting, and drive ERP system efficiencies
  • Identify and implement process improvements to streamline workflows and strengthen financial reporting
  • Prepare non-GAAP reporting and ad hoc financial analyses to support management decision-making

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting 
  • Licensed Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in the state of Illinois
  • 6+ years of experience in accounting, public accounting or corporate accounting
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting 
  • Experience managing or reviewing accounting close processes, journal entries, and reconciliations 
  • Experience working with ERP systems
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and ability to prioritize, multitask and think critically in a fast-paced environment 
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills

The target salary range for this position is $112,000.00 - $140,000.00 annually.

The wage range for this role considers many factors, such as training, transferable skills, work experience, licensure and certification, business needs, and market demands. The pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. Full-time roles are eligible for bonuses and benefits.
