For many people living with severe and persistent mental illness, accessing the right supports can be life changing, but navigating complex systems like the NDIS can be overwhelming. At Mission Australia, we believe everyone deserves the opportunity to pursue their goals, strengthen their independence and live a life filled with hope and possibility. As an Access Enabler within our Psychosocial Support Program (PSP), you'll play a vital role helping participants understand and access the NDIS, gather evidence, connect with services and build the supports they need to thrive. Through advocacy, collaboration and person-centred support, you'll help remove barriers and create pathways to greater choice, inclusion and long-term wellbeing for people in the Port Macquarie and Kempsey communities.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Support people living with severe and persistent mental illness to access the NDIS and other community supports that align with their recovery goals.
  • Build trusted, professional relationships with clients, their families, carers, and support networks.
  • Guide participants through the NDIS access process, including gathering evidence, completing applications, and coordinating required documentation.
  • Conduct recovery-focused assessments and contribute to the development of personalised support and recovery plans.
  • Regularly review client goals and progress, ensuring support remains responsive to individual needs and aspirations.
  • Work collaboratively with clinical and non-clinical services to provide coordinated, person-centred support.
  • Advocate for clients and help them navigate service systems, reducing barriers to accessing the supports they need.
  • Develop and maintain positive partnerships with local service providers, the NDIA, and other key stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate client records, case notes, and reports in line with organisational and program requirements.
  • Contribute to service quality, continuous improvement initiatives, and knowledge sharing across the team.

Requirements for Success:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in mental health or related field desirable
  • Demonstrated experience supporting people living with mental ill health, psychosocial disability, or complex support needs.
  • Experience assisting participants to access, navigate, or utilise the NDIS and other community services.
  • Strong understanding of recovery-oriented practice, person-centred support, and trauma-informed care principles.
  • Ability to build effective relationships with clients, families, service providers, and community stakeholders.
  • Experience facilitating coordinated support plans involving multiple service providers and support systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage, advocate, and influence effectively.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and administrative requirements.
  • Sound computer literacy and experience using client management systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Current NSW Driver Licence and willingness to travel within the local community.

Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications, and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.
