Toshiba Global Commerce Solutions, the North Carolina-based retail division of the global tech giant, announced this week that it plans to establish an innovation hub in Frisco.

Toshiba plans to hire 50 people this year at the innovation hub, with plans to triple its headcount to 150 employees over the next two years. The company is recruiting people with cloud, microservices and edge computing skills to further innovate its ELERA unified commerce platform.

The innovation hub will be located within Hall Park at 3201 Dallas Parkway. The sixth-floor office will span 14,341 square feet and feature 15 offices, four conference rooms, 51 workstations, a break area and a lounge.

Toshiba established the innovation hub with the goal of attracting high-tech talent that will work to find new and innovative ways to meet consumer demands and reimagine the store of the future.

Toshiba Global Commerce Solutions CEO Rance Poehler said in a statement that the company is focused on providing “scalable, customer-centric solutions that deliver optimized experiences to meet consumers when, where and how they shop.”

Toshiba hopes to accelerate its growth through cloud development, computer vision and retail IoT. The innovation hub will also function as an incubator that will encourage innovation through collaboration with technology partners. The company is also creating a new team dedicated to mergers and acquisitions.

“We are nurturing the incubation of ideas to innovate and advance our industry-recognized retail solutions like ELERA, Toshibas open, modular platform for unified commerce. Its core value is its ability to help retailers become more agile and resilient in the face of change,” Mike Yeung, executive vice president and CTO of Toshiba Global Commerce Solutions, said in a statement. “Part of our strategy includes engaging emerging startups in the region to expand our ecosystem. Our investments in IoT, data analytics and computer vision enable retailers to provide a consistent, compelling experience for consumers, whether they shop in-store, at curbside, on their mobile device or at home.”
