Leads the strategic direction, technical integration, and organizational performance of plant integration, plant support systems, physical plant integration, and systems engineering disciplines. The intern collaborates with engineers and scientists under guided supervision, participates in design reviews and team meetings, and maintains technical records. The role is a fully on-site, 10-week Summer 2027 internship for students or recent graduates in mechanical, electrical, nuclear, or related engineering fields.

The intern analyzes project performance, identifies optimization opportunities, develops business cases, and collaborates on strategic initiatives. The Test Hardware Design Engineer designs, tests, and integrates mechanical systems for nuclear prototypes, ensuring performance and safety through detailed engineering analysis and project collaboration.

Manages engineers designing and integrating reactor internals for the XE-100 advanced nuclear reactor. Provides design authority, directs mechanical design and analysis, coordinates multidisciplinary teams, suppliers, manufacturing, construction, and licensing efforts, and ensures compliance with design controls, documentation, schedules, budgets, and quality standards. The role also supports technical decisions, resource allocation, staff development, design reviews, and configuration management.

Provides project controls support across risk management, scheduling, budgeting, estimating, and change management. Maintains project schedules, budgets, forecasts, risk registers, performance dashboards, metrics, and KPIs. Identify, qualify, and manage equipment and service suppliers; create category and project execution plans; analyze spend, risk, market conditions, costs, and schedules; negotiate supplier contracts and strategic agreements; review technical and quality requirements; coordinate supplier QA qualification; monitor supplier performance; manage delivery schedules; and provide commercial and contracting guidance across business units.

Provides project quality assurance for X-energy’s reactor development programs. Establishes and maintains quality management processes, analyzes nonconformances, implements corrective actions, supports inspections and supplier audits, delivers quality training, and reports program risks. Owns project quality plans and serves as the quality point of contact. Ensures compliance with nuclear, DOE, Canadian, international, and ISO requirements while promoting safety and quality culture. The role requires domestic and international travel to supplier and customer sites.

Designs and analyzes mechanical structures, systems, and components for terrestrial and space-based advanced nuclear reactors. Responsibilities include CAD modeling, structural hand calculations, FEA support, design for manufacturability, prototype testing, and cross-disciplinary coordination. The engineer maintains configuration-controlled models in Teamcenter, develops analysis plans, and supports integration of reactor components such as pressure vessels, heat exchangers, core structures, and transportation packages.

Implement supply chain processes and act as primary liaison with suppliers and stakeholders. Develop strategic and project-specific procurement plans, perform category spend and risk analysis, negotiate and manage contracts, ensure technical and QA requirements, monitor supplier performance, and support business development to meet schedule and cost objectives.

Design and draft 3D models and 2D drawings for reactor/SMR plant equipment, piping, and systems; create PFDs, P&IDs, isometrics; ensure manufacturability, maintain PLM/PDE models, resolve interferences, prepare manufacturing drawings and BOMs, coordinate with engineers, lead small design teams, and mentor junior designers.

Plan, develop, and execute test programs for advanced reactor technologies. Coordinate with systems engineers, design test hardware and facilities, oversee fabrication/installation/commissioning, supervise test execution, document results, and liaise with vendors. Provide in-person test oversight and support lifecycle of test hardware.
