The Vice President, Performance Excellence and Patient Safety Officer leads strategic planning, performance improvement, quality metrics, regulatory compliance, and patient safety activities for an organ and tissue donation organization. Responsibilities include overseeing safety investigations, root cause analyses, corrective actions, audits, data reporting, process improvements, and multidisciplinary leadership. The role also supervises division staff, supports organizational change, and serves as the primary liaison with regulatory bodies, transplant partners, hospitals, patients, and donor families.

Supports families of potential organ, tissue, and eye donors in hospital settings. Partners with healthcare providers and clinical personnel to educate families, obtain donation authorization, complete legal and donor risk documentation, assess family dynamics, coordinate conversations, escalate complex referrals, and provide follow-up. Requires compassionate communication, crisis-management skills, confidentiality, organization, medical terminology knowledge, and the ability to work effectively in fast-paced interdisciplinary environments.

Supports families of potential organ, tissue, and eye donors during grief and crisis. Collaborates with hospital and clinical teams, educates legal decision-makers, obtains donation authorization, completes documentation, conducts donor risk assessments, coordinates escalations, and provides post-donation follow-up. The role requires compassionate communication, advocacy, sound judgment, confidentiality, and the ability to work onsite in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Provides administrative support to department directors and managers, including calendar and meeting coordination, expense and travel arrangements, meeting minutes, data entry, records management, supply ordering, software and office systems support, and training material preparation. The role also assists administrative staff, maintains confidentiality, manages competing priorities, and supports departmental projects and daily operations.

Builds relationships with healthcare providers, educates legal decision-makers, obtains donation authorization, completes required documentation, and honors first-person authorization decisions. The role may also direct donor medical management in the ICU, conduct physical assessments, verify donor registry records, and assist donation coordinators.

Manages organ donor evaluation, screening, and critical care in the ICU. Reviews medical records and clinical data, assesses donor suitability, directs treatment and ventilator management, documents care and regulatory compliance, and coordinates multi-organ recovery in the operating room. Collaborates with hospital teams, transplant centers, surgeons, and donor families; supports brain death or withdrawal-of-support planning, organ packaging and transportation, staff education, and quality improvement.

Reviews organ donor referrals, assesses critically ill patients, coordinates with hospital care teams, supports brain-death and withdrawal-of-support evaluations, and guides families through donation authorization. Directs donor medical management as needed, performs assessments, maintains documentation, searches donor registries, educates clinical staff, and supports organ, tissue, and eye donation processes.

Approaches legal next of kin by telephone regarding organ, tissue, and placenta donation; conducts donor risk assessment interviews; evaluates donor eligibility and logistics; coordinates with tissue partners, medical examiners, funeral homes, and recovery teams; completes authorization and EMR documentation; performs peer reviews, reporting, troubleshooting, and process improvement. Requires compassion, composure, active listening, medical terminology knowledge, and accurate handling of sensitive information.

Reviews and responds to potential organ donor referrals, assesses clinical status and family dynamics, supports authorization discussions, and coordinates donation activities with hospital and organ recovery teams. Provides donor medical management, physical assessments, documentation, registry verification, and education for healthcare staff and families. Requires collaboration, timely decision-making, confidentiality, and occasional on-site assignments.

Performs organ preservation, recovery, packaging, labeling, documentation, and transport for transplant, research, clinical trials, and education. Uses aseptic technique, surgical instrumentation, organ preservation devices, and electronic donor records while coordinating with transplant centers and interdisciplinary teams. Maintains compliance with OPTN and organizational policies, supports performance improvement, and ensures safe handling of organs, tissues, vascular composite allografts, and specimens.
