Owns timelines, deliverables, configuration control, budgets, resources, risks, procurement, vendor coordination, and stakeholder communications for space and ground-based optical projects. Partners with systems engineering and supply chain teams to deliver complex hardware and mission systems on schedule and within budget. Supports spacecraft hardware and software integration testing in an on-site lab. Responsibilities include preparing test setups, executing procedures, recording results, processing test data with Python, maintaining documentation and traceability, building and checking cables and fixtures, and supporting instrument readiness. The intern will also develop data-handling scripts and assist with test reports, hardware bring-up, soldering, and lab operations under engineer supervision.

The engineer will collaborate with data science, software, systems engineering, and research-institution partners while contributing physics-based inputs to SDA programs and serving as the technical authority for orbital mechanics.

Measures throughput, memory, latency, and power; identifies bottlenecks; evaluates CPU/FPGA partitioning and acceleration; and assesses algorithm simplification, radiation mitigation, and onboard architectures. Produces defensible trade studies, calibrated confidence metrics, and technology-maturation roadmaps. Collaborates with data science and astrodynamics teams on deployable models, hardware-in-the-loop validation, and spaceflight transition pathways.

Support infrastructure, automation, cloud operations, deployments, monitoring, and production reliability. Manage Docker-based deployments, AWS infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines with GitHub Actions, and infrastructure automation using Ansible, Bash, and Terraform. Build observability dashboards and alerts with Prometheus and Grafana, troubleshoot production issues, and support Linux and Windows environments. Collaborate with development teams to improve reliability and visit client sites for deployments and integrations when required.

Annotate blobs and streaks in space situational awareness imagery, preprocess and tile datasets, assist with AI/ML model training, testing, and validation, document performance benchmarks, report errors, and identify hyperparameters for tuning. Quality Control Engineer responsible for QA/QC processes in precision optical manufacturing, including lenses, mirrors, opto-mechanical components, and telescopes. Conducts optical inspections, GD&T verification, interferometric and MTF testing, alignment validation, audits, and environmental qualification. Develops quality standards, manages inspection documentation and nonconformities, coordinates with external manufacturing and coating vendors, supports supply-chain quality, and trains internal teams and suppliers on optical manufacturing and inspection requirements.
