IT Companies in Canada to Know

CGI is an IT services consultancy that assists businesses with managed IT services, systems integration and management consulting. Founded in 1976 in Quebec City, the company is now headquartered in Montreal. It employs more than 90,000 professionals worldwide, including 11,000 employees in its 26 Canada offices.

 

Shopify is an e-commerce platform that provides businesses with tools to set up an online store, manage inventory and accept payment. It’s used by more than 1 million businesses, including big names like Allbirds, Gymshark and PepsiCo. Employing 11,600 employees worldwide, the remote-first company is headquartered in Ottawa. In 2020, it opened an R&D center in the city to test out new robotics and fulfillment technologies.

 

OpenText develops enterprise information management software that organizes, integrates and protects companies’ data and content in accordance with regulatory and corporate governance requirements. The Waterloo-based company is now one of the biggest software companies in Canada, employing 25,000 workers across 120 offices around the world.

 

Google, the California-based company behind the world’s biggest search engine and whose portfolio includes YouTube, the Chrome web browser and the Android operating system, employs more than 2,500 workers in Canada. It has offices in Toronto and Montreal, and its engineering headquarters is in Kitchener.

 

Microsoft is the tech giant behind the Windows operating system, the Xbox video game console and the suite of productivity tools like Word, Excel and PowerPoint. The Washington-state-based company employs nearly 5,000 people across 11 offices in Canada.

 

 

3Play Media provides closed captioning, transcription, translation and audio description services to enterprise and government entities as well as companies in industries like higher education, media and entertainment and more. Its offerings include interactive transcripts and video search tools. The company has an office in Calgary.

 

KUBRA specializes in enterprise software that supports a wide variety of sectors, including utilities, waste management, healthcare, insurance, government and telecommunications. A substantial number of homes throughout the United States and Canada benefit from KUBRA’s products and services, which cover everything from online, phone and in-person payments to platforms for enabling customer alerts and maps of utility outages.
