Summary: Customer success roles have gone remote industry-wide. Salesforce, GitLab, Stripe and others are hiring CSMs to guide onboarding, troubleshoot technical issues and boost retention for clients spanning fintech, cloud computing, cybersecurity and IoT platforms.

When it comes to software, selling is only half the job. Tech companies also need people who can make sure customers stick around and get their money’s worth. That’s where customer success professionals come in — whose job is to guide clients through onboarding, while deploying products and explaining their nuances, helping solve technical snags as they come up and improve long-term retention.

Nowadays, these roles are largely remote, as much of this work happens over video calls and digital collaboration tools with customers and colleagues spread across multiple time zones. The global CRM market alone is valued at roughly $100 billion. Companies involved in everything from cybersecurity to cloud computing are looking for customer success specialists who can translate tech jargon and build client trust. These are some of the top names to know.
