October tech funding starts strong ...

Envoy, whose software makes it easier for companies to hire and manage international workers, announced a $21 million Series C on Tuesday. The company will use the funding to increase its go-to-market efforts, make platform improvements and for hiring. [Built In Chicago]

On the same day, medical mobile gaming startup Level Ex announced it raised an $11 million Series A. The startup will use the funding for hiring, launching new titles and opening a new Boston office. [Built In Chicago]

 

... following $199 million raised in September

Chicago startups pulled down $199 million in new funding in September. The month was dominated by big rounds, with several companies raising $10 million or more. Tempus and Raise led the way, closing Series C rounds worth $70 million and $60 million, respectively. [Built In Chicago]

 

Another European startup picks Chicago for North American HQ

Belgian startup Showpad, whose software helps sales and marketing teams sync up on content, has chosen Chicago for its North American headquarters. The company plans to make at least 20 local hires to support the new office, which will be located somewhere in the Loop. [Built In Chicago]

 

Snapsheet and KeyBank launch Snapsheet Transactions

Insurance technology startup Snapsheet and Cleveland's KeyBank have teamed up to launch Snapsheet Transactions, a digital payments solution for insurance companies. The new product is designed to eliminate the need to write and mail paper checks by making it easier for carriers to issue digital payments to claimants. [PR Newswire]

 

Two tech companies close acquisition deals

KAR has completed its acquisition of TradeRev, an app-based dealer-to-dealer auction platform. The acquisition will bring new jobs to KAR’s Chicago office, which will become one of TradeRev’s primary sales and development hubs. [Press release]

Chicago's Synapse Games has been acquired by Kongregate, a San Francisco-based video game publisher. Synapse Games, which specializes in mobile collectible card games, will continue to operate as an independent game studio under the Kongregate brand. [Press release]

 

STATS opens new regional HQ

On Tuesday, STATS announced the opening of a new office in Limerick, Ireland. The office will serve as the sports data and analytics company’s European, Middle Eastern and African headquarters and will employ over 100 part-time and full-time staff members by the end of 2018. [Business Wire]

 

Tech companies welcome new high-level hires

On Monday, Caremerge welcomed Nancy Koenig as CEO. Koenig joins the company, whose platform helps improve engagement between nursing home caregivers and families, from Merge Healthcare, where she served as COO. [Press release]

Seth Darmstadter was introduced as Outcome Health’s new general counsel on Tuesday. Darmstadter was most recently a partner at Michelman & Robinson LLP, a Chicago-based law firm he also co-founded. [Press release]

 

ThoughtWorks named a top company for women technologists

The AnitaB.org, a nonprofit dedicated to the advancement of women in technology, has named ThoughtWorks one of 2017’s top companies for women technologists. The win marks the second straight year the tech consulting firm has been recognized by the nonprofit for its gender diversity. [PR Newswire]

 

Chicago tech closes major partnerships

Finnbin has secured an exclusive partnership with Kimberly-Clark to stock its baby boxes with products from three of the company’s brands. Moving forward, all Finnbin boxes will contain diapers, wipes and pads from Huggies, Kleenex and Poise. [Press release]

MATTER has partnered with Tel Aviv-based Sheba Medical Center, one of Israel’s leading medical innovation centers. MATTER-affiliated startups will be able to run pilot programs at the Israeli facility.
