POSITION SUMMARY:
The YREADS! Assistant will support the YREADS! Site Coordinator with all aspects of design, marketing and implementation of the program, as well as, recruit volunteers. This position requires skills in volunteer recruitment and training, the ability to positively relate to children and create a genuine collaboration with the schools.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Works collaboratively under the supervision of the Site Coordinator to ensure proper deliver of lesson plans and curriculum.
- Assist with volunteer recruitment and training.
- Utilize communication methods that will chart student progress for teachers and parents.
- Participate in training sessions as directed by supervisor.
- Perform all pre and post testing as directed and comply with all performance monitoring.
- Enters the mentors’ and students’ attendance into the database as directed.
- Completes the online and in-person training.
- Helps the Site Coordinator with classroom set-up, snack, clean-up, hallway transitions, and classroom management.
- Teaches the SIPPS lessons and other reading lessons as assigned by the Site Coordinator.
- Maintains confidentiality of students, parents, and faculty
- Responsible for upholding all staff safety requirements including cleaning protocols throughout the day, as required by my department.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor of Science degree in education or a related field preferred.
- Knowledge, skills and experience in programming for children.
- Strong desire to help struggling readers in grades K-4
- Genuine enjoyment of children with an understanding of their varied learning styles
- Understanding of the challenges of some families
- Strong verbal and written skills in English
- Successfully complete State of Florida Criminal History Background Check requirements as well as meet the Association’s policies on background screening
CERTIFICATIONS AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:
- CPR/ First Aid/AED Certifications required
- Completion of YMCA’s Blood Borne Pathogens training annually
- Completion of YMCA’s Child Sexual Abuse Prevention training annually
- Staff Safety Requirements/Cleaning Protocols
- Additional training classes as recommended by Supervisor
