Job Description SummaryIn partnership with Shield AI, GE Aerospace is advancing F110 propulsion system integration for XBAT, a next-generation autonomous aircraft designed for vertical takeoff and landing. This effort requires adaptation of the F110 lubrication system to support sustained vertical operation, ensuring reliable oil supply, scavenge performance, thermal management, and overall engine operability across non-traditional flight attitudes. The role will support the definition, development, integration, and validation of lubrication system modifications, working across design, analysis, testing, and customer interface activities to enable successful propulsion system performance in the XBAT application.
As an XBAT Mechanical System Advanced Lead Engineer at GE Aerospace, you will lead the design, procurement, and development of lubrication system components for the F110 engine as a module and hardware owner. This role is for a passionate engineering problem solver who understands the design process, tackles technical challenges head-on, and excels at teamwork and collaboration.
This position may report to an engineering manager in either Lynn, MA or Evendale, OH with the opportunity to integrate with various internal & external engineering disciplines.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Lead the conceptualization, design, analysis, and validation of lubrication system components/hardware and architectures required to support engine operation across the full flight envelope, including vertical operating conditions.
  • Work with product definition teams to develop and release component and assembly drawings for lubrication system hardware, ensuring configuration control, producibility, and compliance with engine and air vehicle integration requirements.
  • Apply advanced engineering principles and simulation tools such as fluid dynamics, thermal analysis, structural analysis, and system modeling to optimize lubrication system performance, operability, weight, durability, and cost while ensuring compliance with aerospace requirements and qualification standards.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to mechanical and systems engineers supporting lubrication system development, fostering strong engineering rigor, cross-functional collaboration, and continuous improvement in design execution.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with systems, manufacturing, supply chain, test, and integration teams to ensure timely development, delivery, assembly, and integration of lubrication system hardware and supporting equipment.
  • Develop and execute design verification and validation plans for lubrication system components and subsystems, including rig and engine test support, test fixture definition, instrumentation requirements, data analysis, and technical report generation.
  • Identify and mitigate technical risks across the product lifecycle, including oil management in non-traditional orientations, aeration, scavenging performance, thermal limits, sealing integrity, and system reliability, using structured design and problem-solving methods.
  • Present lubrication system designs, analyses, test results, and technical recommendations to internal stakeholders, customers, and certification or regulatory representatives as required.
  • Ensure all lubrication system designs adhere to company engineering standards, safety requirements, quality expectations, and applicable airworthiness or program-specific compliance requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field from an accredited university. Master's or Ph.D. preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in lubrication system and component design and analysis, with a strong focus on advanced systems within aerospace, power generation, or a closely related high-tech industry.
  • GE Aerospace will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.

Desired Characteristics

  • Proven experience leading technical projects and/or mentoring junior engineers.
  • Expert-level proficiency with CAD software (e.g., NX, CATIA) and advanced simulation tools (e.g., Ansys).
  • Deep understanding of mechanical engineering principles, including stress analysis, fatigue, fracture mechanics, vibrations, heat transfer, and fluid dynamics.
  • Demonstrated experience with design for manufacturing (DFM), design for assembly (DFA), and additive manufacturing processes.
