Role Overview:
As a Workshop Engineer, you are responsible for building, configuring, testing, repairing, and preparing IT equipment to support customer deployments and internal business requirements. You play a key role in ensuring that devices are delivered accurately, efficiently, and to the high standards expected by the business and its customers.
You will work as part of the Workshop team to complete hardware builds, diagnose faults, manage equipment logistics, maintain accurate records, and support project delivery activities. Success in this role relies on technical accuracy, attention to detail, strong organisation, and a commitment to quality and customer service.
Key Responsibilities:
Hardware Build and Configuration
Build, configure, and test laptops, desktops, servers, printers, and other IT equipment.
Install operating systems, software applications, drivers, and updates in line with customer and company requirements.
Configure devices according to documented build standards and deployment specifications.
Complete quality assurance checks to ensure equipment is fully operational before deployment.
Prepare devices for customer delivery, installation, or collection.
Workshop Operations
Carry out daily workshop activities in accordance with workload priorities and delivery schedules.
Support equipment booking-in and booking-out processes, ensuring records are accurate and complete.
Assist with equipment staging, asset tagging, imaging, and deployment preparation.
Ensure workshop tasks are completed within agreed timescales and service targets.
Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment.
Repairs and Technical Diagnostics
Diagnose and repair hardware faults where appropriate.
Troubleshoot issues relating to desktops, laptops, peripherals, and other supported equipment.
Escalate complex technical issues to the Workshop Supervisor when required.
Record repair activities, findings, and resolutions accurately.
Assist in identifying recurring issues and recommend improvements where appropriate.
Stock and Asset Management
Assist with receiving, checking, and recording deliveries from suppliers.
Support stock management activities, including inventory checks and stock organisation.
Ensure assets are recorded accurately and tracked through the build and deployment process.
Report stock shortages, damaged items, or discrepancies to the Workshop Supervisor.
Assist with stock audits and inventory management tasks as required.
Quality and Compliance
Follow all workshop procedures, build standards, and quality assurance processes.
Maintain accurate documentation relating to builds, repairs, and equipment movements.
Ensure all work complies with company policies, security requirements, and quality standards.
Support compliance with ISO, Quality Management System (QMS), and operational procedures where applicable.
Take responsibility for maintaining high standards of workmanship and attention to detail.
Service Delivery and Collaboration
Work closely with Workshop colleagues, Service Desk teams, Project Engineers, and Procurement staff.
Support project delivery by preparing equipment in line with project schedules and requirements.
Communicate progress, issues, and delays to the Workshop Supervisor in a timely manner.
Required Skills & Experience:

Good understanding of PC, laptop, server, and peripheral hardware.
Ability to build, configure, and test IT equipment accurately.
