Job Description

We are seeking a Workforce Planning / Workforce Transformation Consultant to join our Change & Capability Team in Canberra. This role is an exciting opportunity to contribute to shaping the public sector workforce of the future, supporting projects that address capability gaps, design workforce strategies, and implement workforce transformation initiatives that drive long-term organisational success.

This position will suit a motivated consultant who thrives working at the intersection of workforce strategy, organisational change, and capability planning — and who is eager to deepen their expertise while contributing to impactful projects.

Key Responsibilities

As part of our team, you will:

  • Support Workforce Planning Projects: Contribute to the design and delivery of workforce planning frameworks aligned with Defence capability needs.
  • Conduct Research & Analysis: Gather data, analyse workforce trends, and provide evidence-based insights that inform strategic decision-making.
  • Develop Workforce Strategies: Assist in creating practical strategies to address skills gaps, enhance workforce agility, and prepare for future operational requirements.
  • Contribute to Capability Development: Support initiatives that build critical workforce skills and deliver sustainable outcomes for Defence and Federal Government clients.
  • Apply Workforce Analytics: Use modelling, forecasting, and reporting tools to generate insights and recommendations.
  • Engage with Stakeholders: Work collaboratively with Defence, Federal and State Government stakeholders, contributing to workshops, presentations, and reports.
  • Integrate Across Functions: Support the alignment of workforce planning activities with HR, finance, operations, and capability programs.
  • Support Change & Communication: Assist with developing communication materials and change management activities that embed workforce transformation.
  • Learn and Grow: Work closely with senior colleagues to build your consulting skills, industry knowledge, and professional confidence.

Qualifications

Experience and Qualifications

  • 3–7 years’ experience in workforce planning, workforce strategy, organisational design, HR, or a related field within Defence, Federal or State Government, or consulting.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to workforce planning or organisational design projects at a team, program, or organisational level.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with exposure to workforce data, modelling, or scenario planning.
  • Experience engaging with stakeholders and contributing to workshops, briefings, or reports.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Human Resources, Organisational Psychology, Business, or a related discipline.NV1 or higher Security Clearance (or ability to obtain).

Desirable:

  • AHRI Certification or micro-credentials.
  • Certificate IV in Human Resource Management.
  • Professional certifications in Strategic Workforce Planning (SWP), Change Management (e.g., Prosci, CCMP), or Project/Program Management (e.g., PRINCE2, Agile).
  • Familiarity with Defence workforce frameworks, Federal Government operating environments, or consulting methodologies.
