Johnson Matthey IT (JM IT) is Johnson Matthey’s global IT function responsible for ensuring that our IT capabilities are not only able to support and integrate technologies but can also work alongside our business units and Corporate functions to provide leadership and direction to provide competitive edge and improved operating efficiencies.
The Workday Integration Specialist role, as part of the People Platforms team, is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining reliable, secure, and scalable integrations that connect Workday with internal and external systems across the enterprise. This role ensures the seamless flow of HR, payroll, finance, and people-related data by leveraging Workday’s integration tools, APIs, SFTP and industry-best practices.
Acting as a technical expert within the People Platform team, the Workday Integration Specialist translates business requirements into robust integration solutions, supports troubleshooting and incident resolution, and drives continuous improvement of Workday-connected processes
What you will do
Principal accountabilitiesBuild and enhance integrations using Workday Studio, EIB, Core Connectors, PECI, and Workday APIs.
Ensure integrations are scalable, secure, and aligned with industry and internal engineering standards.
Maintain clear documentation of technical designs, data flows, and configuration details.
Own the day‑to‑day performance, monitoring, troubleshooting, and resolution of integration issues.
Conduct root-cause analysis and implement long‑term fixes to prevent recurring defects.
Maintain integration schedules, file transfers, and connectivity with internal and vendor systems.
Act as the primary contact for integration-related questions, impact assessments, and technical feasibility.
Advise HR, IT, and cross-functional teams on integration capabilities, constraints, and best practices.
Ensure consistent adherence to data governance, compliance, and security standards
Work with HR, Payroll, Finance, and local system owners to understand requirements and convert them into technical solutions.
Collaborate with third-party vendors to manage external integration specifications and testing cycles.
Support Workday releases by evaluating integration impacts, coordinating testing, and implementing required updates.
Lead improvements that increase reliability, reduce maintenance overhead, and enhance user experience.
Ensure transparent progress tracking, risk identification, and timely communication with stakeholders.
Define and execute integration test plans, including unit, end‑to‑end, and regression testing.
Key requirements:
Strong hands‑on experience with Workday integration technologies such as Workday Studio, EIB, Core Connectors, and Workday Web Services. Demonstrated ability to design, build, test, and maintain integrations across SaaS and local systems
Solid understanding of HR, payroll, and people data models, including security considerations, data governance, and integration best practices. Proven experience supporting Workday modules in a live, multi‑tenant environment.
Background working in Agile or iterative delivery environments, using tools such as Jira to manage technical work, tasks, and documentation. Previous experience collaborating with cross functional business and IT teams to deliver system enhancements or projects.
Proficiency in XML, JSON, XSLT, and API based communication, with the ability to interpret vendor specifications and translate them into technical solutions. Experience troubleshooting integration failures using logs, reports, and integration monitoring tools.
Strong analytical skills for root‑cause analysis and long‑term integration stability improvements.
Ability to document integration designs, data mappings, and technical specifications clearly.
