The Workday Architect will lead the design, development, implementation, and ongoing optimization of our Workday Human Capital Management (HCM) system. This senior-level role is responsible for ensuring our Workday platform aligns with business needs and delivers a seamless, efficient, and scalable user experience across our global workforce. This role will bring deep expertise across Workday HCM, security, advanced compensation, and payroll, and will serve as the strategic and technical lead across a broad range of Workday initiatives - from discovery and design through deployment and support.

Preferred location: Atlanta, GA, but open to remote candidates within the U.S

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Serve as the lead architect and subject matter expert for all Workday HCM modules, including Core HCM, Security, Advanced Compensation, Benefits, Talent, and Payroll.

  • Drive full lifecycle project delivery including requirements gathering, solution design, configuration, testing coordination, deployment, and post-go-live support.

  • Lead Workday roadmap planning and governance, aligning with organizational priorities and identifying opportunities for process and system improvements.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders (HR, Payroll, Finance, IT) to translate business needs into scalable system solutions.

  • Develop, implement, and maintain complex configurations and business processes within Workday.

  • Manage and optimize Workday security architecture and role-based access controls.

  • Partner with functional users to lead system testing, including test planning, execution support, and issue resolution.

  • Lead production support efforts: triage issues, resolve bugs, perform root cause analysis, and implement long-term solutions.

  • Stay current on Workday releases and functionality enhancements and recommend innovative solutions that improve system performance and user experience.

  • Act as the platform owner and primary point of accountability for Workday, ensuring alignment with enterprise goals and a superior user experience.

  • Oversee vendor and partner relationships related to Workday, including implementation partners, managed services, and support vendors.

  • Ensure data integrity, compliance, and audit readiness across all Workday modules and associated integrations.

  • Establish and monitor platform health metrics, system performance indicators, and usage analytics to drive continuous improvement.

  • Serve as the Workday escalation point for complex issues across modules.

  • Provide mentorship and promote best practices in configuration and change management.

  • Partner with HR to develop and refine actionable reports and user-friendly dashboards that inform decision-making.

  • Participate in initiatives that integrate Workday with other systems and assist in collection and consults to refine requirements with the HR users and vendors

  • Analyze and recommend enhancements to business processes and other aspects of system configuration to streamline HR operations and optimize efficiency while ensuring data integrity.

  • Evaluate, communicate, and coordinate the technical impacts of Workday configuration decisions, providing detailed analysis when necessary.

  • Champion and drive user adoption and change management strategies related to Workday enhancements and new functionality.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Deep experience across Workday HCM and other modules

  • Strong technical acumen with hands-on experience in Workday

  • Excellent project management skills, capable of leading multiple concurrent initiatives across Workday modules.

  • Strong stakeholder management skills and ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences.

  • Demonstrated ability to diagnose complex problems and design scalable, sustainable solutions.

  • Collaborative and proactive, with strong consultative and relationship-building skills.

  • Experience working in fast-paced, high-growth environments and navigating competing priorities.

  • Attention to detail with strong organizational and documentation skills.

  • Familiarity with compliance, SOX, and data governance standards in relation to HR systems is a plus.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication capabilities

  • Advanced Excel skills and knowledge of/experience with project management tools

  • Knowledge of or experience with agile delivery methodologies preferred

Experience and Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

  • 7+ years of experience supporting and managing Workday HCM systems, including at least 3 years in a senior or architect-level role.

  • Proven track record leading multiple end-to-end Workday implementations and enhancement projects.

  • Workday certification in HCM, Advanced Compensation, Timekeeping, Payroll and other relevant modules preferred.

  • Familiarity with payroll regulations and processes strongly preferred.
