Position Summary

This position is essential in managing the Work-Study program's daily operations, processing SAP, and reviewing SAP appeals as part of the Office Financial Aid and Scholarships (OFAS) Operation Unit within the OFAS. The position works closely with OFAS units, Enrollment Management Call Center, C2 Hub, Human Resources, Accounting Services, and Payroll to ensure the accurate and timely planning, awarding, and payment of federal, state, and institutional work-study funding. This position is involved regularly reconciling, tracking, and reporting work-study funding. 

The position will participate in strategic enrollment management initiatives, including recommending, establishing, and administering procedures and policies related to delivering aid to students. This position reports to the Director of Operations and works with the other directors to develop and recommend policies and implementation procedures for institutional, State, and Federal financial aid programs, including primarily work-study. As part of the OFAS Operation unit, this position supports the operation unit initiatives and priorities. This position reports directly to associate director of student services.

Duties/Responsibilities

60% - Program Coordination 

  • Responsible for administrating the Work-Study program funded through federal, state, and institutional sources. This includes planning, awarding, tracking, and projecting funds.
  • Work with the OFAS accountant for payroll updating, funds management, and reconciliation. 
  • Will serve as the Work-Study point of contact for troubleshooting student award issues, student, OFAS system team, student supervisors, Human Resources, and Payroll.
  • Track and report information and data related to the Work-Study program. 
  • Updates and trains internal staff as subject matter experts in areas of responsibility. 
  • The position develops and maintains policies and procedures for the job.
  • The position works closely with the compliance director regarding studying business processes and policies.
  • Will work closely with the OFAS system team in planning and awarding work-study. 
  • Work with internal and external constituencies to build Work-Study placement opportunities. 
  • Develop and provide outreach, resources, and communications to help students, faculty, staff, and external entities understand and maximize Work-Study opportunities for the benefit of our students. 
  • Work with the operation director to ensure the Work-Study program is strategically aligned with the office and university mission, values, and goals.
  • Responsible for processing SAP and revising SAP appeals. 

30% – Determining Financial Aid Eligibility

Assesses the student's ability to pay for education expenses by evaluating income and household reported on the FAFSA or CASFA, federal tax returns, and other financial documents. Must explain complex financial aid calculations and the results and rationale behind financial aid awarding to students in a simple and easy-to-understand manner. When requested, the Financial Aid Advisor assesses documented changes in financial circumstances that occur in a student's situation during an academic year and exercises professional judgment in making adjustments to data elements in the formula that determines the student's ability to pay for the cost of attendance. Problem-solving for financial aid applicants includes:

  • Reviewing Professional Judgement.
  • Satisfactory Academic Progress Appeals.
  • Resolving FAFSA comment codes and rejects.
  • Verification reviews.
  • Packaging aid revisions.
  • Adjusting student budgets.
  • Correcting over awards.

10%--Other Duties as assigned 

  • Other duties as assigned include attending outreach events and counseling for students and parents regarding the financial aid application process, eligibility, need analysis, budgeting, awarding types of aid, and repayment policies and procedures. Support the Director and Operation unit on special projects.
  • The employee may be asked to counsel students/parents if fluent in another language.

Required Qualifications 

  • A bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution. 
  • At least one-year Financial Aid experience Or At least 2 years as a student worker employed in a Financial Aid Office Or At least 2 years working in the banking industry, accounting or other administrative duties that require analytical and critical thinking skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Ellucian’s Banner database system. 
  • Experience in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, etc). 
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently. 
  • Experience meeting deadlines in a high-stress environment. 
  • Experience collaborating with teams to complete organizational goals. 
  • Experience managing workflows and coordinating the work of others. 

Work Hours

  • Full-time, 40 hours per week, Exempt
  • Monday through Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm. Evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Hybrid schedule (on-campus and remote) available for this position
  • Travel: Rarely

Salary for Announcement

The minimum of the pay range for this position is $40,000. We anticipate the qualified candidate to be placed between $47,300 - $56,200. The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. Additionally, Student Affairs has committed to tying our salaries to an understanding of a living wage. To that end, we will not pay less than $47,300.

The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
