Position Overview

We're seeking an experienced WordPress developer who writes code, not just manages sites. This is a technical role for someone who builds custom solutions, works with complex architectures, and understands WordPress as a development platform rather than just a CMS. 

This is NOT a role for: 

• Site managers who primarily work with page builders (Elementor, Divi, etc.) 

• Those who mainly install and configure existing plugins without customization 

• Those who primarily work through WordPress admin interfaces 

• Developers without solid PHP OOP experience 

Responsibilities: 

• Develop and maintain custom WordPress themes and plugins using modern PHP practices and OOP principles 

• Create and maintain Gutenberg blocks using JavaScript/React 

• Implement RESTful APIs and third-party integrations 

• Work with Composer packages and dependency management 

• Debug complex issues with major plugins (YOAST SEO, WPML, WooCommerce, etc.) 

• Optimize database queries and implement proper caching strategies 

• Handle multilingual and multisite implementations 

• Conduct thorough code reviews and provide constructive feedback 

• Collaborate with design and SEO teams on feature development 

• Ensure code quality through testing, documentation, and peer review 

• Meet project deadlines while maintaining high coding standards 

• Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues across multiple environments 

Requirements: 

• 4+ years of hands-on WordPress development experience writing PHP code including OOP, design patterns 

• 3+ years of modern frontend development (HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript ES6+, build tools and bundlers for asset compilation) 

• Proven experience building custom WordPress themes or plugins from scratch 

• Deep understanding of WordPress architecture, hooks, filters, and core APIs - knowing when and how to use them appropriately 

• Proficiency with object-oriented PHP and modern development patterns 

• Experience with Gutenberg block development using JavaScript/React 

• Solid knowledge of RESTful API development and third-party integrations 

Would be beneficial 

• Knowledge of MySQL optimization and WordPress database structure 

• Familiarity with Linux server environments and deployment processes 

• Experience with Laravel framework or Roots ecosystem (Bedrock, Sage, Trellis) 

• Experience with WordPress Multisite networks 

• Experience with Docker, CI/CD pipelines 

• Previous work on high-traffic WordPress sites 

• Experience with advanced caching solutions (Redis, Varnish, etc.) 

• Work with WordPress CLI (WP-CLI) for deployment and maintenance tasks
