Summary The Wheelchair/ Medical Taxi professional provides safe, efficient transportation for customers traveling to and from medical appointments, healthcare facilities, and residences.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following: other duties may be assigned.
This role primarily supports customers who use a wheelchair or other mobility aid. At times, the professional may also provide medical taxi service for customers who do not require a mobility aid but lack other transportation options.
In delivering non-emergency transportation for wheelchair and medical taxi patients to appropriate facilities:
1. Safely moves, secures, and transports wheelchairs, medical taxis, and stretchers to transport patients to appropriate facilities.
2. Diplomatically and professionally interact with hospitals, nursing home social workers, friends, and relatives of the patient.
3. Completes all essential records for patient transportation and billing purposes.
4. Assists in training new personnel on the day-to-day operations of the wheelchair vehicle, including billing procedures.
5. Identifies and reports operational problems.
6. Report difficulties encountered with patients, relatives, professional personnel, and others to the on-duty supervisor.
7. Safely operate EmergyCare vehicles in all traffic and weather conditions.
8. Performs daily inspection of assigned vehicle and all equipment on the vehicle.
9. Follows established format and submits accurate and timely reports as required.
10. Advises on-duty supervisor of any unusual conditions or incidents requiring intervention or remedial action.
11. Maintains skills and job requirements through regular participation in continuing education programs.
12. Responsible for the operation of the wheelchair vans.
13. Encouraged to participate in continuing education and company committees.
14. Can anticipate any shortcomings during daily operations and quickly resolve any problems.

Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Current driver's license must hold a Heartsaver First Aid and CPR from the American Heart Association or have successfully completed an equivalent course of study. EmergyCare may elect to provide such training as part of orientation in lieu of one of the above-listed certifications or cards. The incumbent must complete an Emergency Services Vehicle Operator course (EMSVO) approved by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania within three weeks (21 calendar days) of employment.
Other Qualifications
Must be able to drive 5 to 8 hours per shift.
