The VP, Underwriting role is responsible for the profitable, growth, and expansion of various subverticals that incorporate multi-line coverage offerings, spanning multiple lines of business and industry segments. This role includes the management of both in-house and delegated authority underwriting resources. The ability to maintain strong and trusted distribution partnerships, while driving profitable and sustainable growth, is critical to this role.
Responsibilities:
- Underwriting management of multi-line portfolios including General Liability, Auto, Excess/Umbrella, Property, Inland Marine, Workers Comp, and Crime. Note, the most significant lines of business are General Liability, Auto, and Excess/Umbrella
- Consistent assessment and analysis of prevailing market conditions and challenges within each book of business, spanning multiple industry segment including, but not limited to, Upstream Energy, Downstream Energy, Specialized transportation, and Contractors
- Maintenance and oversight of key distribution partnerships with Managing General Agents. This includes weekly communication with MGA partners regarding production, claims, rate monitoring, acquisition costs, and the state of the market.
- Regular auditing and upkeep of Underwriting guidelines, authority statements, and audit criteria.
- Management of Profit and Loss statements for each book of business with a focus on underwriting profit and expense management
- Ongoing collaboration with Actuarial, Home Office, IT, Claims, and Finance team to drive profitable outcomes for each book of business.
- Direct management responsibilities for a team of 5-7 underwriters of varying experience.
