Role Summary/Purpose:


The VP, Treasury – Payment Systems Product Owner is responsible for maximizing the value delivered by one or more Agile teams supporting the design, build, and delivery of core payments capabilities within Synchrony’s proprietary Payment Hub. This is a high-impact role for a payments professional with strong product management instincts and the ability to grow into broader product ownership over time. The ideal candidate will bring deep payments expertise, shape roadmap decisions, and partner across the enterprise to deliver scalable, secure, compliant, and customer-centric payment solutions.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:


Roadmap & Strategy:

  • Contribute to product vision and roadmap decisions for the Payment Hub using data, operational insights, and regulatory needs.
  • Partner with Product Management to identify future capabilities, prioritize opportunities, and shape long-term platform strategy.
  • Support roadmap development by applying cross-functional and systems-based thinking to manage product complexity and dependencies.
  • Develop, maintain, and prioritize the product backlog to reflect product vision, business value, milestones, stakeholder needs, and system dependencies.
  • Align with Product Management and technology partners on feature sequencing, roadmap objectives, and PI goals.

Product Development & Execution:


  • Own the product space from discovery through delivery, including requirements definition, prioritization, release readiness, and post-launch feedback.
  • Lead Agile ceremonies and provide clear product context, decision-making support, and timely issue resolution.
  • Write and prioritize user stories with strong understanding of stakeholder needs, functional requirements, non-functional requirements, compliance, and operations.
  • Identify, escalate, and resolve risks, blockers, and gaps in requirements or delivery readiness.
  • Support testing activities by reviewing QA scripts, leading UAT, securing documentation, and coordinating stakeholder sign-off.
  • Oversee release activities to ensure deployments are planned, executed smoothly, and aligned to business priorities including transition to run and post-production validation.
  • Monitor key performance indicators to evaluate the success of the product and the efficiency of cross-team interactions.

Stakeholder Management & Leadership:


  • Lead and collaborate with scrum teams in a culture of accountability, innovation, execution excellence, and customer focus.
  • Manage dependencies across internal teams, vendors, and external partners.
  • Validate development progress, negotiate priorities, and secure stakeholder alignment.
  • Ensure third-party integrations meet contractual, service-level, and control requirements.
  • Monitor key performance indicators to measure product success, operational performance, and team effectiveness.
  • Create and maintain clear functional documentation for key features and capabilities.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Domain Knowledge & Compliance:


  • Bring strong knowledge of backend payment orchestration, operations, risk management, and regulatory environment across various rails (i.e., ACH, card, wire, instant payments).
  • Lead systems-based product decisions for complex payment workflows, including orchestration, authorization, settlement, exception handling, and controls.
  • Shape shared payment services for consistency, compliance, and scalability across channels.
  • Perform other duties and/or special projects as assigned


Qualifications/Requirements:


  • Bachelor's degree OR in lieu of degree; high school diploma/GED and 8+ years of product management or agile development experience within financial services, fintech, or commercial banking.
  • 5+ years of  product management, systems analyst or agile development experience within financial services, fintech, or commercial banking.
  • Exceptional communication, systems thinking, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability and flexibility to travel for business as required

Desired Characteristics:


  • 3+ years of experience leading development of payment products and services, preferably in relation to a centralized payments function or hub
  • Knowledge of micro-services architecture and programming/scripting languages.  SAS/SQL experience is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of ACH, card payments, wire transfers, RTP, and payment hub architectures as well as their associated file formats or rules (i.e., NACHA, ISO20022, SWIFT, etc.)
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements (AML, KYC, PCI-DSS, OCC and CFPB regulations).
  • Proactive, with a high degree of self-initiation
  • Demonstrated quality/process improvement experience
  • Advanced problem-solving skills with the ability to synthesize disparate and/or complex requirements into cohesive solutions within a virtual environment.

The salary range for this position is 110,000.00 - 185,000.00 USD Annual and is eligible for an annual bonus based on individual and company performance.


Actual compensation offered within the posted salary range will be based upon work experience, skill level or knowledge.


Salaries are adjusted according to market in CA, NY Metro and Seattle.

At Synchrony, our way of working allows you to have the option to work from home near one of our Hubs or come into one of our offices. You will be required to commute to your nearest Hub (either virtual or physical) for in-person engagement activities such as regular business or team meetings, training and culture events. 


*Field Sales and some Commercial team roles may have varied location requirements based upon partner obligations or preferences.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • You must be 18 years or older

  • You must have a high school diploma or equivalent

  • You must be willing to take a drug test, submit to a background investigation and submit fingerprints as part of the onboarding process

  • You must be able to satisfy the requirements of Section 19 of the Federal Deposit Insurance Act.

  • New hires (Level 4-7) must have 9 months of continuous service with the company before they are eligible to post on other roles.  Once this new hire time in position requirement is met, the associate will have a minimum 6 months’ time in position before they can post for future non-exempt roles.  Employees, level 8 or greater, must have at least 18 months’ time in position before they can post.  All internal employees must consistently meet performance expectations and have approval from your manager to post (or the approval of your manager and HR if you don’t meet the time in position or performance expectations).
