Position Title - VP, Head of Technology, US Technology (India)

Role Summary
As part of Tech Talent Transformation (T3) agenda, MetLife is establishing a Technology Center in India. This technology center will perform as an integrated organization between US, India, and strategic vendor partners in an Agile delivery model. The Head of Delivery and Platform Enablement role will lead the IT teams located in multiple India cities - Hyderabad, Pune, New Delhi, responsible for the end-to-end oversight of development, delivery, and maintenance of software and IT services directly supporting run and change solutions. In addition, this role will lead the Platform Services function, driving the strategy and tech platforms related to Cloud, API, DevSecOps, CICD, Observability, and Application Management Governance. This role will also be responsible for matrix people management including staffing, recruiting, career development and people management.
This position leads:
  • Systems delivery that enables target business objectives, systems stability, reliability and availability of deployed systems by driving executive technology decisions, including leading large technology teams based in Hyderabad as well as work with strategic vendor partner to manage the tech delivery
  • Design, develop, deliver and support the critical tech platforms using his/her delivery team. Defining & implementing technology platforms and related services, ensuring the alignment of strategy, toolset, leverage, and reusability
  • Enable technology transformation & people agendas and drive the change in how technologists work especially for the developer, SRE and QA population as aligned with the Agile way of working
  • This is a leadership role that will drive, inspire and manage a diverse team of IT professionals to support the optimized and quality-centric delivery of IT solutions, working as an extension of the IT Leadership team. This role will leverage technical expertise, leadership skills, project management, and client liaison experience to ensure group outcomes meet quality standards, deadlines, and budget requirements.

  • Key Responsibilities:
    • Lead and manage the Technology teams based in India to deliver software, infrastructure and architecture related deliverables that meets the requirements of the UST organizations.
    • Build up Strategic and Technical relationship with all senior Leadership to drive the Technology vision and goals.
    • Responsible for leading and managing teams in India on delivering across high priority initiatives. Thought leadership & transformation recommendations in business application software solution on various MetLife products
    • Partnering with global leads, recruit, coach and nurture a team that is consistently over performing and delivering on business and technology objectives. Drive change management and culture change by adhering to and evangelizing MetLife values and behaviors along with maintaining a talent pool bench of capable skilled resources.
    • Accountable for providing day-to-day leadership and management of the resources based in India (employees and partner resources) to ensure high engagement (MyVoice or equivalent)
    • Create a diverse and inclusive team in India.
    • Accountable for driving the positioning of MetLife as an employer of choice for technologists.
    • Accountable and responsible for effective financial management, planning and monitoring of the teams based in India.
    • Ensuring the team has the technical competencies to meet the product capability needs aligned to the customer.
    • Working with Agile teams, comprehend, analyze people, process or technology blockers and direct/action to resolve them. The role will own resolution of all barriers that impede the important work done by the teams.

    • Matrix management responsibility for cross functional team members aligned to product team including hiring, firing, promotions, performance, career and compensation management, & training & development.
    • Own and contribute directly to the successful achievement of overall global & regionally cascaded annual IT goals and objectives for identified programs of work, Talent & Culture, as well as Portfolio execution excellence.

    Rationale :
    The role is a key solution provider to deliver the complex and diverse portfolio of work for the business as well as supporting high priority Global programs. The ability to support development capability from India is a key part of the MetLife IT strategy to enable IT solutions that can be delivered in an optimized and cost-efficient manner, while maintaining the highest standards of quality.
    To this end, this role is a required role that will lead the MetLife India teams and contribute to the achievement of business and IT objectives and key results. Without this role, the ability to effectively lead and drive the India delivery teams would not be practically feasible, as the role is intended to be co-located directly with teams in India to provide hands-on leadership and guidance.
    Qualifications
    • Bachelor's degree in information technology, Engineering, Computer Science or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
    • Approximately 15 or more years of experience in software development including leadership roles focused on next generation technology and platform development.
    • Five or more year's applicable experience in managing systems delivery teams in complex environment, large scale, environments including management of sourced services.
    • Five or more years' experience in hands-on coding at some time in career.
    • Ten or more years' experience in solution engineering in solving complex technology challenges.
    • Five or more year's applicable experience in establishing and managing vendor relationships.
    • Experience with both digital technologies and agile development methodologies/environments
    • Proven program/project management experience in the implementation of complex business applications including the integration of disparate applications.
    • Strong execution experience in Agile delivery of large portfolio.
    • Excellent communication, collaboration, and teaming skills; skills and experience in executive level communication and presentations
    • Proven ability to navigate cultural, geographical, and technological complexities.
