Compensation Overview
The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

What Is the Opportunity?
As a member of the Data Engineering senior team, this role reports to the VP Data Engineering and will drive the evolution and implementation of Travelers data and analytics strategy to support progress toward our strategic objectives and our transformation to a customer-centric digital insurer. This role will work in close collaboration and partnership with enterprise functional areas and business units, to set priorities, identify and build the design and development of data strategies and processes to support the organization’s current and future data asset requirements and meet business goals and objectives.What Will You Do?
- Provides outside-in thought leadership and direction in shaping the data management capabilities and delivery strategy.
- Proactively stays abreast of developments and trends to advance digital transformation efforts, understand the intersection of technology and business needs relevant to the company to drive business innovation through data management and bring those insights into actionable business value delivery outcomes.
- Accountable for building a culture of data management literacy that is cross-functional, tailored to specific skill sets and contexts, and illustrative of a people-first leadership style.
- Work with key business stakeholders to define their MDM (internal and customer) strategy and effectively see the strategy through execution.
- Help implement and effectively use broad technology offerings along with enhanced Data Governance and Data Management capabilities to solve their business problems and achieve their strategic business goals.
- Defines and oversees the implementation of new architecture, systems, and roadmaps to obtain, store, integrate and manage data.
- Oversees the technology and roadmaps related to data warehouse, stores, and other business intelligence systems to manage and distribute data effectively.
- Establishes, oversees the data governance standards and policies to develop data management guidelines that will ensure data accuracy, reliability, and security.
- Looks for opportunities to scale efficiencies and new ways of working across multiple projects and environments.
- Manages to execution, creates a cadenced framework for deliverables to create transparency and accountability to excellence across teams.
- Drives and takes ownership for developing connections that help deliver what is best for our people and stakeholders.
- Influences and facilitates the creation of long-term relationships which add value to the organization.
- Utilizes agile methodologies and global delivery centers to achieve a track record of successful delivery.
- Provides functional and technical MDM expertise to help realize growth initiatives.
- Develops the MDM Implementation playbook, delivery maps, and estimation model for data engineering practice.
- Researches and evaluates emerging technologies to enhance data capabilities and operations.
- Adheres to data privacy regulations to ensure sensitive data is protected.
- Demonstrates thought leader-level abilities as a team leader.
- Supports team to disrupt, improve and evolve ways of working when necessary.
- Coaches, manages, and develops the team to maximize performance, business impact and results. Fosters and inclusive team environment that encourages innovation/innovative ideas and diversity of thought.

What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?
- Ten or more years of experience leading data engineering/data management across a company/division preferred.
- Fifteen or more years of progressive experience in data engineering/management fields preferred.
- Experience defining, motivating, and driving change at the executive level and across stakeholders in a highly matrixed environment preferred.
- Experience working on data management in the digital space preferred.
- Experience as a thought leader and innovator in the development of new tools, methodologies and problem-solving approaches preferred.
- Demonstrating thorough knowledge in designing and implementing MDM solutions across multiple divisions.
- Proven ability to build the vision for and lead an integrated data management teams through MDM Implementations.
- Deep understanding and demonstrated ability to adapt to complex business environments and situations.
- Broad understanding of latest Data, Analytics and Technology trends and their impact on business strategies and operations, including but not limited to public cloud and artificial intelligence.
- Demonstrated ability to articulate, persuade and communicate the value of data and analytics.
- Demonstrating proven experience in implementing data quality rules and maintaining ID translations between source and consuming applications.
- Demonstrating experience in addressing Finance, Supply Chain, Marketing and Operational requirements for MDM.
- Displaying proven communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships with clients and stakeholders.
What is a Must Have?
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent training with data tools, techniques, and manipulation.
- Nine years of data engineering or equivalent experience
- Three years of previous management experience.
