The Role

We’re seeking a strategic, business-minded VP of Legal to serve as Snorkel AI’s in-house counsel - building and driving a proactive legal strategy to support our next phase of growth. Reporting directly to the CFO, you will lead the Legal function as a trusted executive partner, shaping the legal and regulatory foundation of our high-growth, data-centric business. This role combines hands-on execution with long-term strategic vision across commercial, corporate, IP, compliance, and employment domains.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic Leadership
    • Serve as the company’s chief legal advisor, partnering with the executive team and Board on all legal and regulatory matters.
    • Build and scale a high-performing legal organization that supports Snorkel AI’s rapid global growth.
    • Develop the legal frameworks underpinning our Data-as-a-Service platform and two-sided data annotation marketplace.
  • Commercial & Product Counsel
    • Oversee all customer, vendor, and partner contracts, with an emphasis on complex data licensing, SaaS, and platform agreements.
    • Advise on product development and data governance to ensure compliance with evolving AI, data, and privacy laws globally.
  • Corporate & Governance
    • Manage corporate structure, equity, and governance matters in partnership with Finance and the Board.
    • Support fundraising, M&A, and strategic transactions as a key deal architect.
  • IP & Data
    • Drive IP strategy across software, data, and AI model assets.
    • Protect and commercialize Snorkel AI’s proprietary technology and data partnerships.
  • Employment & Compliance
    • Partner with People and Finance to navigate employment law issues and global compliance obligations.
    • Build scalable policies and frameworks to support our hybrid and distributed teams.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
    • Operate as a central node across teams — enabling business velocity while managing risk with clarity, pragmatism, and speed.
    • Balance business enablement with legal rigor to ensure Snorkel AI continues to innovate responsibly.
About You
  • 12+ years of experience in corporate, commercial, and technology law, including in-house counsel leadership (preferably in a VP, Head of Legal, or General Counsel capacity).
  • Deep familiarity with SaaS, data licensing, and marketplace models; experience in AI, machine learning, or data services preferred.
  • Proven ability to build and lead small, high-impact legal teams while scaling process and governance frameworks.
  • Exceptional judgment, communication, and stakeholder management skills — you translate legal complexity into business clarity.
  • Adept at balancing strategic foresight with hands-on execution in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
  • JD from an accredited law school and active bar membership (CA preferred).

Salary Range
$300,000$375,000 USD
