The role holder utilizes deep subject matter expertise and strategic vision to define and deliver RGA's operational risk enablement strategy, risk appetite, global regulations, and best practices. This includes leading and managing the Operational Risk Enablement team and overseeing the coordination of a large and diverse group of internal local and regional 1st and 2nd line resources to deliver the strategy.

Principle Duties

  • Lead the delivery of RGA’s Enterprise-Wide Operational Risk Enablement Activities to deliver and maintain a comprehensive set of Operational Risk capabilities that deliver on RGA’s current and future growth needs.
  • Oversee all workstreams within the project including but not limited to: Overall Operational Risk Enablement Strategy, Policy & Procedures; Risk Quantification; GRC tool delivery; Organizational Design; Controls and Assurance; Change Management; Management Information.
  • Input into strategic decisions related to future RGA’s Operational Risk approach, tools, and frameworks. Use cost/benefit analysis to efficiently enhance current practices.
  • Monitor and anticipate emerging global Operational Risk regulations and ensure the Program and business as usual activities deliver proportionate and efficient responses effectively leveraging existing approaches and tools wherever possible.
  • Provide Subject Matter Leadership to the Project Team and to Regional and Local 2nd line of defense Operational Risk subject matter experts.
  • Ensure an effective network of 1st line resources exists to deliver and maintain the Operational Risk management needs of local RGA businesses.
  • Work with 3rd line to ensure an integrated and comprehensive control assurance program is designed and executed.
  • Support the preparation of briefing papers for key RGA committees such as: the Board Risk Committee; Risk Management Steering Committee and Operational Risk Committee.
  • Work with senior leaders around the world to successfully deliver the change needed to incorporate and maintain Operational Risk practices into business practices and processes.
  • This position has managerial responsibilities and will supervise up to 20 direct reports.

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Arts/Sciences (BA/BS) or equivalent experience.

Experience:

  • 15+ Years of experience in operational risk management with responsibilities for management reporting.
  • 5+ Years of leadership experience, including management of global distributed teams and within a matrix management environment.
  • 5+ Years experience in the insurance or reinsurance industry.
  • Experience of working with an Enterprise Integrated Risk Management tool.
  • Experience with ServiceNow’s IRM tool, Enterprise Change Management Projects, Use of risk exposure quantification methodologies encompassing consideration of inherent and residual risks and effectiveness of controls is preferred.

  • Ability to develop and implement strategic plans related to enterprise risk management that anticipates and adapts to organizational needs.
  • Exceptional ability to make timely and effective decisions, potentially with incomplete information and an ability to think clearly and operate effectively under pressure.
  • Ability to gain agreement in contentious or potentially contentious situations involving a broad range of stakeholders.
  • Ability to effectively lead multi-functional teams in both direct and matrixed management environments, including the leading of geographically dispersed virtual teams.
  • Recognized leader who values inclusion across a team, resulting in a diverse set of views and opinions that are thoughtfully considered.

Compensation Range:

$213,050.00 - $266,300.00 Annual

Base pay varies depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience and market location. In addition, RGA provides an annual bonus plan that includes all roles and some positions are eligible for participation in our long-term equity incentive plan. RGA also maintains a full range of health, retirement, and other employee benefits.
