Job SummaryResponsible for developing and executing comprehensive risk management strategies across the organization and identifying, monitoring, analyzing, and reporting credit union risks. Provides oversight across the eight level-one risk categories applicable to an NCUA regulated credit union. Strong collaboration skills are required to effectively work with business units and senior management to make informed decisions and protect MACU’s reputation.

Strategic Leadership
- Provide strategic vision for Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) and support to the SVP Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC).
- Drive the development and implementation of ERM strategies and controls.
- Recommend overall strategy for risk management processes for the MACU.
Leadership and Development
- Build strong relationships with business leaders across MACU and develop a detailed understanding of their issues, challenges, and opportunities related to risk exposure and financial modeling/forecasting.
- Adapt leadership and communication style to individual needs and coach for skill mastery.
- Ensure team alignment with strategic goals and changing business needs.
- Exemplify Leadership Way and MACU Way behaviors while fulfilling responsibilities as a leader in the corporate environment.
- Lead the ERM teams by leading leaders and functional work: risk appetite recommendations, risk assessments, risk modeling, and operational risk functions such as issues management and third-party risk management.
- Mentor and provide coaching and performance feedback to the ERM teams.
- Manage the team budget for assigned projects, monitor progress, and adjust resources and priorities as needed.
Risk Assessment and Monitoring
- Collaborate with the CRO, SVP GRC, and enterprise leaders to identify and monitor changing risk patterns and key risk indicators.
- Develop ERM tools and best practices for risk analysis and reporting.
- Monitor and analyze enterprise risks to identify emerging risks and recommend appropriate risk strategies.
- Evaluate and enhance risk assessment processes including RCSAs, process and product focused risk assessments, and risk assessments designed to understand risk across all eight Level 1 risk categories that inform on MACU’s enterprise risk posture.
Data and Analytics
- Leverage data analytics and automation tools for risk assessments, monitoring, and tracking KRIs.
- Develop testing strategies and methodologies to validate control design and operating effectiveness.
Committee Participation
- Participate in various risk committee meetings, including but not limited to Enterprise Risk and Operational Risk committees.
- Present periodically to the Board of Directors on the state of risk management within the credit union.
Policy and Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, including Bank Secrecy Act, OFAC, FACT Act, GLBA, Regulation CC, and Regulation DD.
- Advise the CRO and SVP GRC on revisions to risk-related programs.
- Provide effective second line change challenge for risk ratings, policies, and procedures as needed.
- Act as the point of contact for regulatory exams for ERM.
Project Management
- Direct planned and off-plan requested ERM assessments.
- Oversee team projects, establish project plans, timelines, prioritize workload, communicate progress, and ensure on-time delivery.
- Manage projects related to changes and trends within the risk profile of the credit union.
Communication and Reporting
- Prepare and present reports and findings to senior management. Ensure reporting is tailored to various audience levels including board of directors, senior leadership, risk committees, and regulators.
- Communicate and escalate issues and emerging risks in a timely and concise manner.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

Experience
- 10+ years of experience in risk management, accounting, auditing, financial institutions, credit risk management, modeling, data analytics, or related roles in the financial services industry.
- 5+ years of enterprise risk management experience.
- 8+ years of leadership experience overseeing credit, lending, underwriting, data analytics, or related financial services.
- Expert-level knowledge of risk management principles and advanced knowledge of enterprise risk management, risk assessment processes, operational risk, business continuity planning, and audit/control processes.
- Experience with RSA Archer or other GRC automation tools.
- Ability to recruit, engage, and coach employee performance.
Education:
- Master’s degree in business, accounting, finance, mathematics, statistics, or a related field from an accredited institution (preferred).
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, mathematics, statistics, economics or a related field from an accredited institution, or four additional years of progressive professional experience in a related field.
- Alternative: 5 additional years of combined experience in risk management, accounting, auditing, legal, or compliance if no master's degree.
Licenses, Certifications, Registrations
Certified Credit Risk Professional (CCRP), Financial Risk Manager (FRM), Enterprise Risk Management or equivalent preferred.
Managerial Responsibility
Has leadership/managerial responsibilities that are direct or through work leaders or assistants, typically with a subordinate group of 5 to 20 employees. Estimates personnel needs and assigns work to meet these needs. Supervises, coordinates, and reviews the work of assigned staff. Recommends candidates for employment, conducts performance evaluations and salary reviews for assigned staff, and applies company policy.
Computer/Office Equipment Skills
- Advanced skills with Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
- Up-to-date knowledge of emerging trends, technologies, and reporting methods for enterprise risk
- Experience with analytical and reporting software preferred (RSA Archer).
Language Skills
- Demonstrated ability to clearly express ideas, methodology, results and recommendations verbally, in writing and through insightful reports and graphic illustrations regarding business and technology needs.
- Demonstrated ability to document outcomes and present information in a manner appropriate for key stakeholders and all levels of the organization.
Other Skills & Abilities
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with the ability to analyze complex data sets and draw meaningful insights.
- Excellent understanding of financial products and their associated credit risk characteristics.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements and guidelines related to credit risk management (e.g., Basel III, IFRS 9) and model risk management.
- Perceived by external peers as a thought leader in specialized area(s) and translates expertise to develop creative strategies to organizational challenges.
- Results driven and proactive, with a strong sense of urgency and accountability.
- Able to promote and maintain high standards of customer service at all times, improving outcomes for employees and MACU members.
- Familiarity with core credit union/banking systems.
- Strong organizational and management skills promoting cross functional collaboration and mutual desire for results.

Unique expert knowledge and experience in multiple strategic functions, specialized areas, the profession, and/or industries with ability to transfer knowledge to practical solutions in support of strategic initiatives.
