The Opportunit

The VP of Data Innovation & Products is a senior leadership role within Ookla's Chief Data & Analytics Office responsible for defining and executing the strategy for Ookla's external-facing data products, APIs, DaaS offerings, and data marketplace positioning. This role reports directly to the CDAO.

This leader will drive the data innovation lifecycle from idea generation through commercialization, turning Ookla's unique connectivity data assets into differentiated, revenue-generating products. Working across sales, marketing, product, engineering, and analytics teams, the role will lead efforts to identify, build, and bring to market data products that extend Ookla's commercial reach and market leadership.

This position operates in a hybrid work environment and includes approximately 25% travel to support stakeholder engagement, commercial planning, product strategy, and team collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and execute Ookla's data product and innovation strategy, spanning external data products, APIs, DaaS offerings, and marketplace positioning.

  • Lead the full innovation lifecycle from discovery and prototyping through commercial launch and ongoing optimization.

  • Partner with sales, marketing, and product leadership to develop go-to-market strategies for data products and drive revenue growth.

  • Oversee Ookla's data marketplace strategy, external-facing API portfolio, and data licensing and packaging decisions.

  • Identify and evaluate new data monetization opportunities grounded in market, customer, and competitive insights.

  • Build a culture of data product thinking, treating data as a first-class commercial asset across the CDAO organization.

  • Collaborate with VP of Data Architecture and VP of AI, ML & Analytics to ensure product-data-technology alignment.

  • Build, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of data product managers and innovation practitioners

Job Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Skills and Attributes

  • Deep expertise in data products, data commercialization, product management, and data monetization strategies.

  • Strong understanding of DaaS models, API-based product offerings, data marketplaces, and external data distribution.

  • Experience defining and executing go-to-market strategies for data products and driving commercial growth.

  • Proven ability to build and scale data product portfolios, licensing frameworks, and marketplace strategies.

  • Familiarity with connectivity, geospatial, or telecommunications data markets and commercial data ecosystems.

  • Strong executive communication, stakeholder management, and cross-functional leadership skills.

  • Strategic and commercial mindset with the ability to balance innovation, customer needs, revenue growth, and operational execution.

Required Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Computer Science, Information Systems, Product Management, Engineering, or a related field.

  • Advanced degree preferred.

  • 15+ years of experience in data products, product management, data commercialization, or related disciplines.

  • 7+ years of senior product leadership experience with P&L exposure or revenue accountability.

  • Demonstrated success launching and scaling data-as-a-service, API-based, or marketplace data products at enterprise scale.

  • Relevant certifications in product management, data strategy, or related disciplines are preferred.

Compensation Range 

Ookla provides a range for the base pay. Factors that may be used to determine your actual pay may include your specific job related knowledge, skills, experience, and geographic location. The salary compensation for this role is $160,000 - $260,000. Individual pay within the compensation range for this business unit specific role is determined based on a variety of factors including experience, scope of the role, capabilities to perform the role, education and training, as well as business and company performance.
