Organizational Overview:

This role will be part of the Cloud & Platform group part of CTO organization.

  • Cloud team is responsible for the SYF public cloud platform & services.

  • Govern health, performance, capacity, and costs of resources and ensure adherence to service levels

  • Build well defined processes for cloud application development and service enablement.

Role Summary/Purpose:
We are seeking an experienced Cloud Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for bridging the gap between software development and operations by creating an environment for efficient development, testing, and deployment of software. The Engineer will work closely with the platform, infrastructure teams, and operations team to ensure the smooth operation of our systems and services.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Infra, platform and operations teams to improve the IaC development and deployment process

  • Design, deploy, and maintain Kubernetes clusters in various environments (on-premises, cloud, hybrid) to support containerized applications.

  • Implement version control strategies and best practices to ensure code and configuration consistency.

  • Set up monitoring and alerting systems (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana) for Kubernetes clusters and applications.

  • Implement and advocate for security best practices for Kubernetes and containerized environments, including RBAC, network policies, and image scanning.

  • Optimize cloud environments for performance, scalability, and resource utilization.

  • Automate repetitive tasks and processes using scripts and tools like Terraform IaC, Ansible, Chef, or Puppet

  • Ensure compliance with security and regulatory requirements

  • Monitor and optimize system performance and capacity

  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies

  • Assist with 24x7 Service Desk providing local and remote services at a high level of customer satisfaction with measurable KPIs.

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or related field; advanced degree with minimum of 8+ of experience in IT infrastructure or cloud architecture. or in lieu of a degree 10+ of experience in IT infrastructure or cloud architecture.

  • Proven expertise designing, implementing, and securing network environments across Business Centers, Physical & Virtual Data Centers (including infrastructure, networking, storage services)

  • Proficient with IaC tools like Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation

  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, or Terraform Enterprise, including expertise in creating and maintaining pipelines.

  • Proficient with cloud platform - AWS and the ability to deploy, manage, and optimize Kubernetes clusters in these environments.

  • AWS Certified SysOps Administrator – Associate

  • AWS Certified DevOps Administrator – Professional

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or related field; advanced degree preferred but not required, with a minimum of 8+ of experience in IT infrastructure or cloud architecture. or in lieu of a degree 10+ of experience in IT infrastructure or cloud architecture.

Work Timings:

This role qualifies for Enhanced Flexibility offered in Synchrony and will require the incumbent to be available between 06:00 AM Eastern Time – 11:30 AM Eastern Time (timings are anchored to US Eastern hours and will adjust twice a year locally). This window is for meetings with Asia and US teams. The remaining hours will be flexible for the employee to choose. Exceptions may apply periodically due to business needs). We are proud to offer flexibility at Synchrony. Our way of working allows you the option to work from home or workspaces in our Regional Engagement Hubs. Occasionally you may be required to commute or travel to Hub or one of the Regional Engagement Hubs for in person engagement activities such as business or team meetings, trainings, and culture events.
