Angott Search Group is pleased to partner with a credit union in the search for a Vice President of Accounting.

This executive leadership opportunity is ideal for an experienced accounting professional with a strong financial institution background who is passionate about leading high-performing teams, strengthening financial operations, and driving strategic initiatives. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, the Vice President of Accounting will oversee all accounting functions, ensure accurate financial reporting, maintain regulatory compliance, and provide key financial insights that support organizational decision-making.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead all accounting operations, financial reporting, and general ledger activities.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, NCUA regulations, and applicable accounting standards.
  • Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes while driving efficiencies through process improvement and automation.
  • Prepare, analyze, and present financial statements, key performance metrics, and financial trends to executive leadership.
  • Develop recommendations that support sound financial management and organizational performance.
  • Coordinate all external audits and regulatory examinations while serving as the primary liaison with auditors and examiners.
  • Monitor financial reporting trends, identify opportunities for improvement, and strengthen internal controls.
  • Partner with leaders across the organization to improve financial processes and support strategic initiatives.
  • Calculate and monitor key financial ratios and performance indicators.
  • Build, mentor, and develop a high-performing accounting team while fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Represent the organization within industry associations and professional networks to stay current on regulatory and accounting developments.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
  • CPA designation required or equivalent professional accounting credential.
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting leadership experience within a financial institution, preferably a credit union or community bank.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and internal controls.
  • Experience managing external audits and regulatory examinations.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience developing high-performing accounting teams.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and presentation skills with the ability to influence executive leadership.
  • Experience with financial reporting systems, process automation, and data analytics preferred.

Skills Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
